Nevertheless, why are such tests so important? Well, they are essential aspects for the development of the event; not only for those putting the Games on, but the athletes themselves. Olympic organizers via the official website, explain it this way,

[These tests help] to ensure that playing conditions and infrastructure readiness at the venues are as close to perfect as possible before the main event. These are essentially stage rehearsals for the Olympics.

Additionally, athletes participating in test events get first-hand exposure to the conditions a year in advance before the Games officially start. It’s a win-win situation for both athletes and organizers, while helping the volunteers, as well as the technical teams, to prepare for the main event.

As one can see, all of this testing is what ensures that us viewers get to experience the iconic, global sporting affair minus any difficulties. Also, each event can occur with efficient safety measures in place. As the organizers say… these are both “wins.”
