Russell Wilson Will Join the Pittsburgh Steelers On 1 Year Deal
The free agents negotiation period has officially kicked off today. However, last night news broke that Russell Wilson will join the Pittsburgh Steelers on a 1 year deal. He will be given the option to compete with Kenny Pickett for the starting quarterback position. With the addition of Wilson, it appears likely that Mason Rudolph’s time with the Steelers is coming to an end. Rudolph has been with the Steelers for the entirety of his professional career. He played a big role in helping the Steelers win in December and get to the playoffs. Now the backup quarterback and occasional starter will be looking for a new team to call home.
After a lengthy meeting this past Friday with the Steelers Wilson posted a video on X. I think all the waving terrible towels in the video were a good indication of how the meeting went. Adam Schefter posted on X that Wilson would be signing a one-year deal with the Steelers. The contract will only cost them $1.4 million because the Broncos will be paying the other $38 million that is owed to the quarterback. Although the Broncos really took a bath on the deal they brokered two years ago with Wilson, he is benefiting greatly from it. Taking a team-friendly deal with Pittsburgh allows them more flexibility to build a strong team around him.
In my mind, I still think of Wilson as a Seattle Seahawk. However, now that he is moving on to Pittsburgh, I hope he will have better success than he did in Denver. But first he’ll have to win the job from Kenny Pickett. Let the competition begin!

In other news, long-time Philadelphia Eagle Fletcher Cox has announced his retirement. Adding to the loss of veteran leadership with the retirement of Jason Kelce. In an Instagram post, Cox had this to say, “I gave everything I had to this team and to this city. I don’t know what’s next for me, but I do know that I’m forever grateful for my time here in Philadelphia and with the Eagles organization.” Congratulations on a successful 12 year NFL career. Wishing a happy retirement to one of the best defensive tackles to play the game.
In addition, the Green Bay Packers will release veteran Dave Bakhtiari. He hasn’t played a full season since suffering a torn ACL in 2020. Aaron Rodgers has already put it out that he would like for Bakhtiari to join the New York Jets. However, with 11 seasons under his belt, he may not want to continue playing. Only time will tell.
