Rundown of the NFL Week 3 Sunday Action
Before we get to the rundown of the NFL Week 3 Sunday action I’d like to observe a moment of silence. You’ve probably heard of the Dolphins massacre of the Broncos. If not, click here to get the goods on that ghastly beatdown. The Broncos have issues they will need to work out as they drop to 0-3. Head coach Sean Payton is going to have to dig deep to get this team on track.
Now on to some other games. The Ravens started off with a bang scoring a touchdown on their opening drive. But things got sloppy after that. They had two fumbles and some punts for the rest of the first half. The Colts took a three point lead into halftime. The second half had a lot of punts, field goals and even a safety. Ultimately the Colts won the game with a field goal in overtime. Both teams are each 2-1. They’ll need to play better if they want to win against their next opponents.
The Browns got off to another sloppy start but managed to turn things around in the second quarter. They proved that they could move the ball and win a game without their superstar running back Nick Chubb. Regarding Chubb, there was good news for him. Only his MCL not his ACL was torn in what looked like a horrific injury last week. He is expected to be recovered in time for the start of training camp next year. As far as the Titans go they didn’t protect their QB and the running game was nonexistent. They did make some good plays and they beat the Chargers so they have the ability to win. They are just going to have to play much better when they face the Bengals next.
Rundown of the NFL Week 3 Sunday Action
The Saints lost QB Derek Carr when they were up 17-0. Jameis Winston replaced him but no points were scored. In the 4th quarter the Saints missed a field goal and the Packers were able to squeak out a 17-18 victory. No word yet on when Carr might return from his AC joint shoulder injury but it doesn’t appear to be season-ending.
It was kind of disappointing but at least two games ended with a QB throwing an interception. After converting a 4th and 5, Kirk Cousins’ next pass was deflected and intercepted.
The Chargers had previously needed to pick up a 4th down but were not able to convert. So for Cousins to get the 4th down but then get intercepted had to hurt. Nevertheless, the Chargers came away with a 24-28 victory.
The Raiders had a chance to snatch a last minute victory from the Steelers. But their 4th quarter play calling and clock management were questionable. Furthermore, they elected to go for a 4th & 5 instead of kicking a field goal. They were at Pittsburgh’s 22 yard line and 13 minutes were still left on the clock.
On their last possession the punt was fumbled but recovered by the Raiders. With 12 seconds left on the clock Jimmy Garoppolo threw an interception. Granted they were on their own 15 yard line but it seemed like he panicked when he threw the ball. The offense made some great plays and some idiotic plays. They really need to get consistent if they expect to compete.
What About Those Cowboys?
Dallas fans were sad to see the Cardinals beat their beloved Cowboys. It felt like Arizona had the game in hand the whole time while the Cowboys struggled to get into a rhythm. With three minutes left in the game Dak Prescott was intercepted by Kyzir White in the endzone.
It was the first win for the Cardinals this season. Meanwhile the Cowboys will no doubt regroup and get ready for the Patriots. They will play the Boston boys this Sunday on October 11.
Speaking of the Patriots they managed to eke out a win against the Jets. As terrible as Zach Wilson is, the Patriots only won 15-10. Their offense needs to improve drastically if they want to win more games. 15 points most likely won’t be enough when they face the Cowboys.
More News and Notes
The Chiefs manhandled the Bears and the Bills did the same to the Commanders. However, I think both those outcomes were expected. It looks like the Chiefs had their mojo back but also the Bears were terrible. Josh Allen played okay but had one interception. Commanders QB Sam Howell said, “hold my beer” as he proceeded to throw four interceptions. Buffalo won the game 37-3 but the Commanders have a 2-1 record so they should play better next week. The Bears lost 10-41 and are 0-3, but maybe they can bounce back next week against the 0-3 Broncos.
So Monday night will be a doubleheader again featuring the Eagles vs Buccaneers and Rams vs Bengals. Both games should be entertaining so I’ll be tuning in. By the way the NFL announced the Super Bowl half-time entertainment act. You can read more about it here.
