Round Up of Sunday Week 4 Action

Round Up of Sunday Week 4 Action

It was an emotional day for Damar Hamlin. But before we get to that here is a round up of the Sunday week 4 action.

The Falcons lost to the Jaguars in London and in Pixar. For more notes on the game click here. Onto the Vikings @ Panthers. The Panthers scored a touchdown in the opening possession. Then added on two field goals. It was downhill from there for the Panthers. They couldn’t generate any offensive output and failed to score in the 2nd half. Truthfully the Vikings weren’t any better. Their defense scored a touchdown off a Bryce Young fumble. The Vikings got the win but I can see why it was their first one.

Speaking of terrible offensive output, the Patriots were shellacked by the Cowboys. It was the biggest loss of Bill Belichicks’s head coaching career. Mac Jones’ decision making was nonexistent and he seemed to panic throughout the game. He was benched because Belichick said, “there was no point in leaving him out there.” He didn’t bench two of his top defensive players who both left the game with injuries. Matt Judon and Christian Gonzalez will both have their injuries further evaluated. I wonder how Belichick is going to coach up this team going forward. Because at the rate they’re going winning another game could be a pipe dream.

Continuing the poor offense theme, the Browns scored a field goal and that was it. They were without starting QB Deshaun Watson. He was replaced by Dorian Thompson-Robinson. He threw three interceptions during the game two of which resulted in Ravens’ touchdowns. The Ravens mostly punted in the second half of the game. They will need to work on improving their offense as well.

The Raiders fell to the Chargers. They had too many turnovers including the 4th quarter interception that sealed their fate. The Broncos got their first win over the Bears who blew the lead they had. Again turnovers were killers for the Bears. Derek Carr played for the Saints but was not able to help his team win. They had a total of 197 yards compared to 353 yards for the Buccaneers. Perhaps Carr’s injury affected him but some critics just don’t believe he is the solution. Time will tell.

Back to Damar Hamlin and the Buffalo Bills. After suffering cardiac arrest on the field last season, Hamlin made his triumphant return. The joy he had at being back on the field was obvious. He said, “To be able to still do what I love at the highest level in the world is amazing.” The Bills went on to crush the Dolphins 20-48. It was surprising considering the Dolphins had hung 70 points on the Broncos last week. Fun fact: Josh Allen threw more touchdowns than incompletions.

The Eagles almost lost out to the Commanders. But they scraped by with an overtime victory. Philly had trouble moving the ball after scoring on the opening possession. When they did move the ball they had to settle for field goals. The Commanders didn’t score in the 3rd quarter opening the door for Philly to take the lead. However, the good thing was that neither team had a turnover.

The Bengals lost to the Titans and it wasn’t close. Joe Mixon averaged 4.7 yards per carry. But Burrow and his receivers weren’t able to connect and move the chains. Maybe Burrows should sit a couple games and finish healing? However, that’s not the way this league works.

News and Notes

San Franciso continues to dominate and remains undefeated. They beat up on the Cardinals to the tune of 16-35. I would rather talk about the 49ers and what they’re doing. The victory is more impressive than the Chiefs who beat the Jets 23-20. Zach Wilson played his best game. But a missed field goal and a fumble cost the Jets. The Chiefs ran out the clock to hold on for the win.

Perhaps the NFL and its media partners should stick to football. Instead of focusing on the contrived relationship between Kelce and Swift. Talking about social justice, no. Harping on a fake romance, yes. That’s all I’ll say about it because I much rather talk about the games.

Next up, Seahawks @ Giants. It will be interesting to see if the 4th ranked Giants defense can dominate the 2-1 Seahawks on Monday Night Football.
