Furthermore, not only is Clark being hired; his character background is being highly valued for this position. ESPN’s Pete Thamel confirms the news that Yahoo! originally reports this morning stating,

“The CFP [is] targeting a new executive director, Richard M. Clark. The Air Force Superintendent who is described by sources as a “leader of leaders.” Yahoo first reported.

Air Force Academy superintendent Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark emerged as the top target to become the next College Football Playoff executive director, sources told ESPN. There’s mutual interest between the sides, and a deal is expected to be formalized in the upcoming days.

Nevertheless, initially there’s some worries whether or not this decision could be officially meet approval. Since there is absolutely no way Richard M. Clark could also stay working as the Air Force Superintendent of the Academy. His service would have to be coming to an end.

Rumblings are that Clark will be retiring at the end of the semester. Moreover, such retirement would definitely free him up and make him available for the CFP. Therefore, crisis is averted.

Also, the CFP is thrilled over Richard Clark coming aboard. In a statement about their hire they state,

“General Clark’s experience leading the U.S Air Force Academy as a Three-star General and also being a four-year letter winner with the U.S Air Force Football team gives him a strong background to excel in this crucial leadership role.

“[We] would add that we will surely miss Bill Hancock, but want to note that Bill has graciously offered to stay on board through January 2025 to help General Clark get ready. Bill will remain at the helm throughout this season, while 2024 will mark a year of transition. Bill has been an outstanding leader for CFP’s first 10 years. Everyone in college football owes Bill a debt of gratitude.”
