Rex Ryan Declares That He Wants to Coach the Jets Again

Most would not advocate for returning back to their exes. But with the way things are currently going for New York, they are searching for positivity and solutions from every possible corner. And this particular idea could be the craziest plot twist that might just work. Might. During a stint on Pardon My Take, Rex Ryan declared that he wants to coach the Jets again.

When Ryan was the HC over the Jets there were  some highlights. Rex coached the organization for 2009-2014 and during his tenure helped the franchise advance to two consecutive AFC Championship games. Interestingly, it was during this era (with Mark Sanchez as QB) that the Jets last made it to the postseason. The Jets last playoff appearance was in 2010 when they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship game, 24-19.

This is one of the longest postseason droughts in NFL history. And with the Jets currently with a record of 3-8; this isn’t the season that’s going to turn things around either. They are just two losses from tying their 2023 loss record (10); and with more weeks to go their record could get uglier. A far cry from where the organization hoped to be this season; especially after getting quarterback Aaron Rodgers back from injury.

But Rex believes he’s got the grit and the right stuff to bring the Jets back to glory. And he thinks the turnaround could occur quite quickly. Which we are sure would be music to any Jets fans’ ears right now.

Nevertheless, we don’t want to put words in Rex’s mouth. So we’ll just let him speak for himself about wanting to get back at helming the Jets to success. Ryan states,

“I’ve let everybody know I’d be interested even though I’ve got a great gig at ESPN. I have some unfinished business with that franchise. If I took over it’d be turned around in about two minutes, cause it starts with the passion and the energy that I would bring to that building, and we’re not gonna take any poop mentality.

We’re gonna kick your ass, and we don’t care if you like it or not, but with that comes responsibility and accountability from that football team. I’ll take every bullet, I get it. I want my players to play fast and I want them to be relentless. I see a team that doesn’t play with the enthusiasm that you need, and that would change in a second, the minute I got there, and it would have to or the guy would be down the road. I know if I get the opportunity to interview for it I’m going to get the job.”

We love Rex Ryan’s passion. And he seems very motivated. But what do you think? Should the Jets pull the trigger and bring Rex Ryan back?
