Restrictions Put In Place For Tom Brady’s Broadcasting On Fox

After a long and insanely successful career in the NFL he finally retired and turned his attention elsewhere. Team ownership and broadcasting being among some of his other interests. However, there is a conflict between being part owner of an NFL team and working in the broadcast booth. Therefore, restrictions have been put in place for Tom Brady’s broadcasting work on Fox. The NFL had said earlier that there were precautions in place but did not elaborate on what they were.

Now it’s been reported that certain restrictions will apply to Brady but not to other Fox staff. According to nfl.com the restrictions are as follows:

Brady is not permitted to attend in-person or online broadcast production meetings and may not have access to team facilities, players or coaches. Fox staff is not subject to these limitations.

He also must abide by the league constitution and bylaws that prohibit public criticism of officials and other clubs, but is allowed to broadcast Raiders games.

Brady was offered a stake in Las Vegas Raiders ownership by owner Mark Davis. However, other league owners were not agreeable with the steep discount that Davis offered to Brady. So they haven’t voted on approving Brady becoming a minority owner in the Raiders yet. To mitigate that issue, Brady brought in Richard Seymour and his partners. This partnership is expected to move along Brady’s ownership bid.

Kevin Burkhardt and Brady will be the top broadcasting team for NFL games on Fox. Brady replaced former tight end Greg Olsen as the no. 1 broadcaster which didn’t sit well with some people. He signed a 10-year deal with the network in 2022, but this will be his first season announcing games. Brady already owns a piece of the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, which also is owned by Davis.

After he retired in 2023 Brady didn’t want to jump right into announcing. In an interview with Colin Cowherd of “The Herd” on FS1 and Fox Sports Radio in February 2023, Brady said:

“I think one thing about my career whether it was when I was drafted by the Patriots or signing agreements with the Bucs, I wanted to be fully committed and I never wanted to let people down,” Brady said. “I want to be great at what I do, and that always takes some time and strategizing and learning and growing and evolving. I have so many people to rely on that could support me in that growth too.”

If he’s as good at broadcasting as he was at football, he should be around for a long time.
