Red Sox Tim Wakefield Passes at 57- Best Knuckleballer Gone Too Soon

Knuckleballer. Dominant. Legend. Baseball loses another giant who changed the game we all love forever. We are very sad to report that Red Sox Tim Wakefield passes at 57 leaving the MLB realm in mourning.

Our hearts go out to family, friends, as well as fans of the Red Sox and Pirates organizations. Furthermore, Many have had so many kind words today about Tim; we thought we would share a few of them with you. For instance, Major League Baseball states,

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Tim Wakefield, 19-year Major Leaguer, two-time World Series champion, 2009 AL All-Star, and the 2010 Roberto Clemente Award winner. 

Tim embodied the finest qualities as a teammate, a competitor, and a caring man.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wakefield family and all who knew and loved Tim.”

Yes, so sad indeed. And Tim definitely is loved. The Red Sox followed up with a statement:

“Our hearts are broken with the loss of Tim Wakefield.

Wake embodied true goodness; a devoted husband, father, and teammate, beloved broadcaster, and the ultimate community leader. He gave so much to the game and all of Red Sox Nation.

Our deepest love and thoughts are with Stacy, Trevor, Brianna, and the Wakefield family.”

What about the Pirates? Well, Pittsburgh gave a little history about Wakefield and his legacy. They reveal,

“We are saddened by the loss of Tim Wakefield.

Tim began his Major League career with the Pirates and was a part of our baseball family for six years. He made his debut in 1992 and was a key addition to the pitching staff that helped propel the team to its third consecutive Postseason appearance. Off the field, Tim always devoted his time to make an impact on others within the Pittsburgh community.

He was a great man who will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”

What a guy. Tim Wakefield was the best of the best. A great friend, teammate and family man. Let’s remember with this video of Tim demonstrating how to throw his famous pitch. We’ll miss you Wakefield.
