Rangers Corey Seager is Having an Appendectomy and Will Miss Several Weeks

Corey Seager is going to miss some time. This is not the injury news that anyone in baseball or Rangers fans would ever want to hear or experience. Seager had been putting on quite the performance this year helping his team finally get above .500 with a chance at playoff contention. However, an unexpected health issue will now remove Seager from the game he loves; and the game we love to see him play. On Thursday it was announced that the Rangers Corey Seager is having an appendectomy and will miss “several weeks.”

Seager went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run and two additional runs scored during Wednesday’s 20-3 blowout win over the Angels. The shortstop made his presence felt, delivering a two-run homer and posting his second three-run game of the campaign. Seager has five multi-hit performances in his last 11 games. Going 16-for-40 (.400) with four home runs; 11 runs scored and a 5:7 BB:K during that stretch. It’s this type of production that is tough for a team to lose at such a key moment in the season. However, a player’s health is always important and should be prioritized.

And that’s exactly what has occurred. As confirmed by Shawn Macfarland, a sports reporter of the Dallas region; Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young announced via Zoom that Corey Seager underwent an appendectomy for appendicitis. And Corey will be sidelined for at least a few weeks. Seager has not yet been ruled out for the season yet. However, it’s a possibility. Dylan Moore will be added to the club as a corresponding roster move.

TV broadcaster for the Texas Rangers, Jared Sandler also provided some positive news on Corey’s condition and timeframe for a possible return. Sandler mentions,

“Rangers SS Corey Seager is having an appendectomy today and will miss several weeks. Per CY, Seager is hoping to return before the end of the season. Seager experienced abdominal pain in recent days that got worse and required procedure.”

Josh Smith will be the primary option at shortstop for the Rangers for as long as Seager is shelved. With Ezequiel Duran, Cody Freeman and Dylan Moore being mixed in some versus lefties. If Corey Seager’s season is indeed coming to an end; he will finish with a .271/.373/.487 batting line. Along with 20 home runs over 102 games. We wish a speedy recovery and send nothing but best wishes to Corey Seager and his family at this time.
