Rams Snatched Victory From Cardinals At The Last Minute

One team needed to win this game just for the divisional implications. The other team had already been eliminated from playoff contention so they had nothing to play for. Oh wait a minute, of course they had something to play for. Like ruining the chances of their division rival clinching the NFC West division. They were moments away from getting the win but the Rams snatched the victory from the Arizona Cardinals at the last minute. It was a dagger to the heart for Arizona.

By the way the game was going you wouldn’t have thought the game meant anything after all. It was nothing but punt after punt after punt. Although in the second quarter the Cardinals did go for it on 4th & 1 at LAR 14. They didn’t convert it and the Rams did nothing with the turnover and had to punt. There also seemed to be a lot of penalty flags thrown throughout the first half of the game which didn’t help. Nevertheless, the Rams finally got it going when Matthew Stafford connected with Cooper Kupp on a 29-yard pass. He also found Puka Nacua for a 15-yard reception and then he scrambled for 15 yards. Finally Kyren Williams ran the ball in for the one-yard touchdown with 3:23 on the clock.

The Cardinals found themselves in third down situations often in the first half. They tried to mount a drive to answer the Rams’ score but QB Kyler Murray was under pressure. He scrambled around making some plays but eventually they had to punt again. Giving the Rams another chance to try and score with 1:41 still on the clock. And they did with a 53-yard field goal. The Rams were up 0-10 at the half.

But the Rams came alive in the third quarter and scored for the first time with a 16 play drive. Trey McBride scored the 1-yard touchdown, his first TD of the season after having 98 receptions. After a Rams’ punt the Cardinals scored again with a 28-yard field goal. But the Rams answered back with a 32-yard field goal of their own. Once again the Cardinals were on the move and went for it on 4th & 10 at LAR 40 line when Murray was intercepted. The Rams had 1st & 10 at LAR 11 and went three and out.

Arizona had one more chance to win the game. Starting at their 36 they got down to 1st & 5 at LAR 5. Murray threw a pass to McBride which hit him in the helmet and ricocheted in the air. It was airborne long enough to be intercepted by Ahkello Witherspoon, so the Rams won 9-13. Nice try Cardinals.
