Rams Marched Over the Saints On Thursday Night
It was a rainy day in Los Angeles. But it didn’t stop the Rams as they marched right over the Saints on Thursday Night Football. The Saints got the ball first and were moving very well down the field. But before they could get in the red zone things came to a halt. On third down Derek Carr was sacked taking them out of field goal range.
The Rams also had a very good drive. They used a good mix of the pass and run, getting nice gains on just about every down. Running back Kyren Williams ran hard and was elusive. Matthew Stafford was connecting with all of his receivers. And the end result was a touchdown.
On the Saints next possession they didn’t move the ball as efficiently as they did on their first drive. They decided to go for a 4th and 5 at the LA 39 yard. But Carr was sacked again and the Rams got the ball with excellent field position at their own 48 yard line. They got the ball down to the nine yard line but couldn’t punch it in on 3rd & 2. So they kicked the field goal and took a 0-10 lead.
The Saints scored their first touchdown in the second quarter. They had a chance to tie or take the lead with 1:41 left in the half. They started on their 35 yard line and Carr completed 18 and 5 yard passes. But those were followed by two off target incomplete passes. So they went for the 4th & 5 and failed to convert with another incomplete pass.
Again the Rams were set up in good field position. Starting at their 42 yard line they went 58 yards in 6 plays and 35 seconds. And scored another touchdown.
Rams March Over the Saints On Thursday Night
Derek Carr has been in the league for 10 years. He has experienced a lot of coaching changes. However, he is back with Dennis Allen who drafted him and coached him while with the Las Vegas Raiders. But he still has a problem with holding onto the ball too long or not sensing the defensive pressure.
He could have used some more protection from his offensive line tonight. Nevertheless he has things to improve. It’s certainly not all on Carr, as the running game was nonexistent. As was the Saints defense. The Rams had their way with them tonight. This doesn’t bode well for the Saints playoff chances.
