Rams Easily Defeated Vikings In Final Wild Card Game
Thanks to the Los Angeles area wild fires, the last Wild Card game was played in Arizona tonight. Despite their 14-3 record the Minnesota Vikings were the fifth ranked NFC playoff contender. Because the No. 1 seeded Detroit Lions won the division with a 15-2 record. The Los Angeles Rams with their 10-7 record are the No.4 seed of the NFC by virtue of winning their division, the NFC West. Despite the rankings the Los Angeles Rams easily defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the final Wild Card game.
During the season the Rams weren’t good on third down or scoring points but they defeated the Vikings in Week 8, 30-20. And they picked up where they left off with the opening kickoff. Matthew Stafford connected on passes to Puka Nacua and Tyler Higbee for 50 yards. And Kyren Williams ran the ball 5 yards for the touchdown. Their defense took the baton and proceeded to pressure Sam Darnold and got a 10-yard sack causing the Vikings to punt on their first drive. The Rams kept the scoring going on their second drive with a 34-yard field goal.
And the Rams defense kept the pressure on Sam Darnold sacking him again for a 7-yard loss. However, the Vikings did move the ball far enough to kick a 34-yard field goal. Minnesota’s defense then forced a three and out and it seemed that the Vikings were getting themselves back into the game. But then disaster struck when Darnold was sacked for a 12-yard loss and was intercepted. The Rams couldn’t capitalize and had to punt again. However, tight end Josh Allen had the ball stripped but the Replay Official ruled that he was down by contact. But two plays later Darnold was sacked and fumbled the ball. Jared Verse recovered the fumble and ran it back for a 57-yard touchdown.

Minnesota then turned the ball over on downs on 4th & 2 at 50. The Rams defense had sacked Darnold yet again. They then went 39 yards and scored another touchdown. The Vikings took a knee to end the half, trailing 3-24. In the third quarter the Rams scored a 44-yard field goal and the Vikings got their first touchdown caught by T.J. Hockenson. But that would be the end of the Vikings scoring. By the end of the night Darnold had been sacked nine times. Some of his throws were inaccurate, others were dropped by the receivers. This wasn’t the same Vikings from earlier in the season.
The fourth quarter consisted of punts and turnover on downs. However, the Rams looked like a complete team now that they have their best players back on the field. With the 9-27 victory the Rams will face the Eagles on January 19.
