Raiders Set All Time Scoring Record With 63 Points Against Los Angeles Chargers
What a night for the silver and black! And what a turnaround, in a week that saw the Las Vegas franchise literally score ZERO points just four days before. However, the history books are flying open and penning some new stats. Since tonight, the Raiders set all time scoring record with 63 points in a regular season matchup against the LA Chargers. Wow.
The previous scoring record? 59. The Raiders tonight improve things by 4 points on their turf inside Allegiant Stadium.
The Raiders establishment themselves are among the first to report this exciting news. The team’s website now states,
“Raiders history was made on Thursday night. The Silver and Black dominated in all three phases against the Chargers, coming away with a 63-21 victory for a franchise record of most points scored in a game.”
Amazing. How did various members of the team contribute to such a stellar and statistical success? The Raiders official PR page provides a quick overview for anyone who unfortunately did not get to witness this game live in the flesh or via streaming broadcast on Amazon Prime. The PR entity reveals,
“Eight different Raiders have scored touchdowns in the game tonight. The Raiders are now the fourth team in NFL history to have eight different players score a touchdown in a single game (regular or postseason).”
Raiders Set All Time Scoring Record With 63 Points Against Los Angeles Chargers
While at times sports can feel like they are nothing more than a script. When it comes to the Raiders though, you could not make this stuff up. For instance, the Raiders season this year is nothing short of ‘bumpy.’ Things start so south that the Raiders’ head coach, Josh McDaniels; is axed with plenty of season left to go.
Moreover, before tonight, the Raiders had scored 20 or fewer points in 11 of 13 games this season. Yet, against the Chargers, they score the THIRD most points in NFL history. The script literally went up in FLAMES.
Nevertheless, to really put this all into perspective. Here’s some cool facts from a few sports writers/reporters.
“The Raiders have scored the most points in a single game in franchise history with 63. That’s more than Las Vegas has scored in their last four games combined.”
-Nick Walters, Channel 13 Las Vegas
“A Raiders team that did not score a point last week scored 42 tonight — in the first half. It is the largest Raiders halftime lead in franchise history.”
-Adam Schefter, ESPN
“Tonight’s 63-point game is the first 60+ point game in Raiders history. It is only the tenth time since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger that an NFL team has scored 60 or more points in a game (including postseason).”
-Kevin Gallagher, NFL Historian
