Raiders’ Ashton Jeanty Channeled Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson Against Bears

Ashton Jeanty and Bo Jackson are sometimes compared because they are both dominant, explosive, and versatile running backs with a similar forceful and explosive play-style. However, on Sunday the pair now truly have statistics in common. In fact, this rising star came to have something in common with a few different NFL legends. The Las Vegas Raiders’ Ashton Jeanty channeled his inner Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson against the Chicago Bears and made history.

Even though the silver and black experienced an unfortunate loss; Ashton still put on quite the show. Being in just week four, the running back has now already achieved a hat trick. A hat trick in American football is when an individual player achieves three important scoring plays, most commonly three touchdowns, in a single game.

Yes, Jeanty scored three touchdowns versus the Bears. In the first quarter a short pass to him resulted in a 7-3 lead for the Raiders. Then a 64-yard run in the second quarter extended the Raiders’ lead and put more pressure on the Bears’ offense. But it was in the third quarter that Ashton accomplished his offensive hat trick. He scores his third touchdown of the day on a short reception, and the Raiders are back in front after a 10-play drive.

But getting into Ashton’s growing legacy within the Raiders organization. Ashton Jeanty is the first Raiders rookie with a rushing TD and receiving TD in the same game since Marcus Allen against the Falcons in 1982. Also, Raiders Public Relations confirmed that, “the running back has now passed Darren McFadden (272) for the second most rushing yards by a rookie in Raiders history in their first four career games – only behind Josh Jacobs (307 in 2019).”

Lastly, the Associated Press’s Josh Dubow revealed one more fun fact. After the conclusion of Jeanty’s breakout performance; Dubow mentions,

“Ashton Jeanty is the 4th Raiders rookie with 3+TDs in a game. Also:
Bo Jackson vs Seahawks 11/30/1987; Marcus Allen vs Rams 12/18/1982; as well as Raymond Chester vs Steelers 10/25/1970.”

Not a bad list to be apart of so soon. When you’re being mentioned with the great Marcus Allen and one-of-one Bo Jackson; you’re obviously doing something VERY right. Nevertheless, after today the Raiders have to be feeling real good about their draft pick. Jeanty is certainly looking like the future and we are excited that we are blessed to watch it all unfold.
