Quarterbacks On The Move; Joe Flacco Headed To Indianapolis
There has been a lot of quarterback activity in the last few days. Many quarterbacks are on the move such as Joe Flacco who is headed to the Indianapolis Colts. That move came as a surprise since Flacco went 4-1 as the starter when Deshaun Watson was out with a shoulder injury. Flacco became an instant favorite with Cleveland Browns fans. Thanks to Flacco’s performance, the Browns secured a playoff berth. And yet the Browns decided to let Flacco walk and brought Jameis Winston onboard instead. I’m inclined to agree with the opinion of Jim Ingraham who wrote:
“All we the people know is that at some point…, Browns officials decided that having the best. And most popular backup quarterback in the NFL, was a little too risky for their taste. Even if their QB1, Deshaun Watson, has only played in 12 of the Browns’ 34 games since he arrived.”
This may turn out to be a decision the Browns later regret. In the meantime, Flacco signed a one-year deal up to $8.7 million with $4.5 million guaranteed.
Desmond Ridder is being traded to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for WR Rondale Moore as reported by Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. Ridder will be the backup to QB Kyler Murray after two seasons with the Falcons. He was 8-9 in the 17 games he started and threw for 3,544 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. As the backup QB, now Ridder can watch and learn. Or at the least, some pressure will be taken off the former third round pick.

With the signing of QB Marcus Mariota the Washington Commanders were free to let Sam Howell go. In a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, the teams will receive draft picks. Seattle will get Howell and the 102nd and 179th picks in the 2024 draft. Washington will get the 78th and 152nd picks in the 2024 draft. So that’s a fourth and sixth round pick for the Seahawks, and a third and fifth round pick for the Commanders.
In defensive news, since being released by the 49ers, Arik Armstead is joining the Jacksonville Jaguars. Armstead was with the 49ers for nine seasons and declined to take a pay cut. According to Ian Rapoport, Armstead is signing a three-year contract worth up to $51 million.
Christian Wilkins has teamed up with Maxx Crosby on the Raiders. He inked a massive four-year, $110 million deal. Good for Christian, bad for quarterbacks.
