Quarterback Jalen Hurts Named the MVP Of Super Bowl LIX
It was two years ago that he played in Super Bowl LVII and just missed out on the victory. But things were much different this time around. He played very well and this time led his team to Super Bowl glory. And as a result quarterback Jalen Hurts was named the MVP of Super Bowl LIX. In his previous Super Bowl appearance the Eagles lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35. Many felt the Eagles were robbed because of a questionable defensive holding call on Philadelphia cornerback James Bradberry. Thanks to that penalty the Chiefs’ Harrison Butker went on to make the game-winning field goal kick. And Patrick Mahomes was named the MVP of that game.
The Chiefs were favored to win Super Bowl LIX and most of the talk centered around them going for the three-peat. But the Eagles had other plans and they looked like a team on a mission led by their unflappable quarterback. We all know that getting to the Super Bowl is difficult and getting back there after losing it is even more difficult. But that’s what the Eagles did after ending the 2023 season on a less than impressive note. Even head coach Nick Sirianni looked to be in danger of getting fired. However, he kept his job and got his team back on track in the 2024 season.
Last night Hurts looked poised and unshakeable as he he calmly executed on the field. Besides Tom Brady, Hurts is the only player with at least three total scores and a 70% passing completion rate in multiple Super Bowls. Hurts has led his team to two Super Bowls and performed admirably in both. Mahomes has been to more Super Bowls but on two occasions now he has been blown out, completely dominated.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts Named the MVP Of Super Bowl LIX
That cannot be said of Hurts. Right now he is definitely a top-tier, upper echelon quarterback. Which is a far cry from how critics previously described him. Hurts completed 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. While he also rushed for the most rushing yards by a quarterback in a Super Bowl with 72. Breaking his own previous record of 70 rushing yards. But I think what really makes Hurts so great is his humility. After receiving the Pete Rozelle trophy, Hurts said:
“Couldn’t be here without my teammates. The effort, the determination everybody displayed to get to this point. It’s never been about what any one of us does, it’s always been about what we do and how we’re responding to certain things. Hell of a game today.”
Congrats to Jalen for winning Super Bowl LIX and MVP!
