PWHL Breaks American Attendance Record With 13,736 at Little Caesars Arena!
WOW! Women’s hockey and Hockeytown take a bow! Professional women’s hockey has been one of the hottest tickets around and the numbers are not lying; and proving it more and more every single day. Case in point, the PWHL breaks the American Attendance Record with 13,736 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
This is so exciting, because it helps to signal that women’s sports deserves more opportunities as well as attention. The whole “no one cares” or “no one watches” notion is steadily being squashed and thrown out the old school thinking window. Furthermore, this is also helping Detroit in their quest to get a team.
The city wants it. PWHL fans want it. It is time to make it happen.
The Motor City stood on business and came out in full force in order to show their support of professional women’s hockey. The Saturday night matchup of Boston versus Ottawa (Boston won btw); saw over 13,700 fans fill the stands. Hockeytown showed up and fans then took to the PWHL social media page on X to tell them to bring them a team. Hopefully soon, their wish shall be granted.
PWHL Breaks American Attendance Record With 13,736 at Little Caesars Arena!
This year new peaks seem to be the norm for women’s hockey. Back in February the league had Scotiabank Arena hopping with a sellout crowd. It was that particular game that now holds the PWHL attendance world record.
Some 19,285 fans came out to watch Montreal and Toronto go at it during the Battle on Bay Street shootout. With records being set in Canada and now in America; there’s a real golden opportunity for other cities and the PWHL to capitalize on. There’s plenty of interest and demand to grow the sport.
For instance, there is already rumblings that the all-time record between Toronto and Montreal won’t even stand long. You see, many fans could not get a ticket to the Battle on Bay Street. However, they are going to get another shot at seeing the two teams in action. On April 20 the Montreal team will host Toronto at the 21,000 seat Bell Centre in Montreal.
This will definitely be a good match. One for the ages. And with how quickly February’s event sold out, tickets to April’s showdown will most likely disappear like hotcakes as well.
