Point Guard Chris Paul Has Announced His Retirement From the NBA After 21-Year Career
He became known as one of the best NBA point guards in the history of the NBA. In fact, he earned the nickname, “Point God” because he was so very good at his job. The timing of his announcement coincides with the first day of the NBA’s All-Star weekend being held in Inglewood, CA, home of the Los Angeles Clippers. Point guard Chris Paul has announced his retirement from the NBA after a 21-year career. It was with the Clippers that Paul spent his last year in the NBA, but it was a short time. The Clippers had sent him home in December then decided to trade him to Toronto earlier this month.
However, he never played for Toronto and was waived by that team on Friday. There was speculation as to whether he would try to catch on with another team. Why? Because he was still in search of that elusive thing, an NBA title. Out of all of his accomplishments, that’s the one thing he was never able to get. And now with his announcement, it’s not going to happen. At 40 years of age some of his accomplishments include being:
- a 12-time All-Star
- an 11-time member of All-NBA teams
- a nine-time All-Defensive teams member
- the 2006 Rookie of the Year
- a two-time Olympic gold medalist
- a member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team

Paul took to Instagram to make the announcement, stating:
“This is it. After over 21 years, I’m stepping away from basketball,” Paul wrote on Instagram.
“As I write this, it’s hard to really know what to feel. But for once, most people would be surprised, I don’t have to answer, lol. But mostly, I’m filled with so much joy and gratitude. While this chapter of being an NBA player is done, the game of basketball will forever be ingrained in the DNA of my life. I’ve been in the NBA for more than half my life, spanning three decades. It’s crazy, even saying that!! Playing basketball for a living has been an unbelievable blessing that also came with lots of responsibility. I embraced it all, the good and the bad. As a lifelong learner, leadership is hard and is not for the weak. Some will like you, and many people won’t, but the goal was always the goal, and my intentions were always sincere.”

We wish Chris had been able to get that NBA title, but he leaves the game with nothing to be ashamed of. Congratulations and best wishes to one of the best ones to ever do it! Enjoy your retirement, you earned it.
