Pittsburgh Steelers Finally Agreed To Give Cam Heyward The Pay Raise He Wanted

He’s been a leader in the locker room of one of the most storied NFL franchises. And he’s been one of the top producing defensive tackles in the league for a number of years. Some said he was being greedy but that’s not how he saw the situation. And apparently the team didn’t think so either. Therefore, the Pittsburgh Steelers finally agreed to give Cam Heyward the pay raise he has wanted for quite some time.

Details of the deal were reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter who posted:

“A deadline deal: Steelers and team captain Cam Heyward reached agreement tonight on a revised deal that will add over $3 million in incentives this year and allows him to earn up $18 million this season, per source. Heyward will play Sunday vs. the Jets.”

“Without this deal, there was a real question about whether Cam Heyward would play. With the deal behind him, Heyward will be out there Sunday, ready to focus on the season.”

Now the wait and suspense is over and Heyward will be available for the Steelers Week 1 start of the 2025 season. Heyward has been a stabilizing factor for the team with his hard work and leadership skills. They very much wanted his presence in the locker room. The former Ohio State Buckeye was drafted in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft and has been with the Steelers organization for his entire career.

And he has an impressive football pedigree, being the son of former NFL player Craig “Ironhead” Heyward and brother of Connor Heyward. Connor is the younger of the brothers and is currently a tight end/fullback for the Steelers.

Heyward is a seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro and is coming off his best season in 2024. He racked up 8.0 sacks, 72 tackles (12 for loss) and a career-high 11 passes defensed. Heyward paired with T.J. Watt are a dynamic duo to be reckoned with. Over his career he has garnered 88.5 career sacks which is good enough to make him second on the Steelers’ career list.

During training camp the 15-year veteran remained with the club but didn’t participate in most team practices. And as a result of his hold-in Heyward would not commit to being available for the start of the season. However, with the recent contract resolution, his being present is no longer a question. Heyward felt like he shouldn’t have been the 22nd highest-paid interior defensive player. And thanks to the new pay raise he won’t be. Congratulations to team captain and former Walter Payton Man of the Year Cam Heyward to getting the deal that he wanted!
