Pittsburgh Steelers And Miami Dolphins Engaged In Jalen Ramsey Blockbuster Trade
Even with the NBA free agency frenzy that is going on, the NFL has created their own hoopla. A mega trade deal was announced this morning involving two AFC franchises. The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Miami Dolphins engaged in a Jalen Ramsey blockbuster trade. As explained by CSB NFL Insider Jonathan Jones:
“The Steelers traded for DK Metcalf, traded away George Pickens, (finally) signed Aaron Rodgers and now get Jalen Ramsey in a deal. The only thing left is inking TJ Watt to a big-money extension.”
Yes, it’s been a busy offseason for the Steelers as they have traded and acquired multiple players. But providing more context on the Ramsey trade is ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter who posted the following:
“ESPN sources: Steelers traded three-time All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Dolphins in exchange for three-time All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The rare player-for-player trade, and another trade. Minkah Fitzpatrick now returns to Miami where he started his career and was the No. 11 overall pick.”
“ESPN Sources: The Miami Dolphins have agreed to trade three-time All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers. As a part of the trade, Ramsey will get a $1.5 million raise this season, bringing his 2025 compensation up to $26.6 million. Steelers get their man and Ramsey gets another raise.”
But wait there’s more! Schefter went on to report that:
“Steelers-Dolphins trade, Part II: Dolphins are trading tight end Jonnu Smith to the Steelers for a late-round pick swap, per ESPN sources. Smith will get a one-year contract extension for $12 million, confirmed by agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey. Steelers OC Arthur Smith is now reunited with Jonnu Smith for the third time in his career. They were together in Tennessee, Atlanta and now back again in Pittsburgh.”

Clearly there was a lot going on with this trade. So the complete breakdown of the trade is as follows:
Steelers get: CB Jalen Ramsey; TE Jonnu Smith; 2027 7th-round pick
Dolphins get: S Minkah Fitzpatrick; 2027 5th-round pick
With this trade Ramsey’s recent extension made him the NFL‘s highest-paid cornerback. Pittsburgh was willing to absorb his sizable contract, which included a $16.6 million cap hit for the 2025 season. Ramsey, was a three-time first-team All-Pro and a six-time Pro Bowler and last season was the first time he missed the Pro Bowl since 2016. But he is still considered a top-tier cornerback who will enhance the Steelers’ defense.
At any rate, Ramsey is happy about the trade as he released his own video announcing the trade, check it out here. Congratulations to Jalen Ramsey on the trade and the extension.
