Pittsburgh Steelers And General Manager Omar Khan Agreed To New Contract

He’s been with the organization since 2001, operating in different capacities. But in 2022 he was promoted to the position of general manager, after former GM Kevin Colbert retired after the 2022 NFL Draft. And apparently the team is happy with his performance thus far. Because today the Pittsburgh Steelers and general manager Omar Khan agreed to a new contract. The three-year contract will keep him with the black and gold through at least the 2028 season.

Since he began his tenure as GM he has become known as being aggressive when it comes to acquiring players. In fact, the first draft he handled was in 2023 during which time he earned the nickname the Khan Artist. Even head coach Mike Tomlin felt it was well-deserved.

“What do they call him, the Khan Artist?” Tomlin said Saturday, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I like that. That’s pretty good. It’s a cool nickname.” Khan, sitting beside Tomlin, quickly brushed off the moniker. “I’ve been called worse,” Khan laughed.

The team issued a statement today regarding the new contract:

“I am excited to announce we have signed Omar to a new three-year contract,” said Steelers President Art Rooney II. “Omar and his team have done a great job over the past three years in constructing our roster through the NFL Draft, strategic trades, and free agency. We look forward to continuing that trend that will lead to even more success on the field.”

Khan expressed his appreciation for the organization in a statement of his own:

“I would like to thank Art Rooney II for his support,” said Khan. “I believe we are building a championship roster and look forward to the 2025 season and beyond as our goals continue to be to bring another Super Bowl to the City of Pittsburgh and our great fans.”

Winning another Super Bowl is of utmost importance to the organization. Despite never having a losing-season during his tenure, head coach Mike Tomlin has been heavily criticized for a lack of playoff success. So the two will have to continue to work together to get the most out of the rosters assembled by Khan.

Khan has already been busy this offseason revamping the quarterback and wide receiver rooms. He’s brought in Aaron Rodgers at quarterback for what will likely be his last season in the NFL. And he’s brought in wide receiver DK Metcalf while trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. Khan has also worked deals to acquire cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith. What other moves he’ll make remains to be seen.

So in the meantime, we wish a hearty congratulations to Khan on his new contract!
