Pittsburgh Kept Playoff Hopes Alive By Beating the Ravens

This was a gotta have it game for the Steelers. A loss meant elimination from the playoffs. But Pittsburgh kept their playoff hopes alive by beating the Ravens on the Saturday doubleheader. Houston at Indianapolis will be the second game of the day.

The weather didn’t do any favors for either team. It was cold and raining cats and dogs. So obviously it was a sloppy, slippery game. Both teams had trouble moving the ball on the ground or in the air. But then the Steelers put the onus on their running game and scored the first touchdown of the game. Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren got the bulk of the rushing yards. Harris punched the ball into the end zone on a 6 yard run.

Meanwhile, with Lamar Jackson not playing, the Ravens continued to struggle. Tyler Huntley held on to the ball too long too many times. Or the passes were short dump offs not picking up the first down. When they got their first first down they fumbled the ball. But then Pittsburgh gave it right back with a fumble of their own.

In the closing minutes of the first half the Ravens finally got some traction. With a couple nice runs and passes they scored their first touchdown. Pittsburgh had a chance to score again before the half. But they fumbled the ball again and the Ravens recovered. The half ended at 7-7.

There was no scoring in the third quarter. Just punts, sacks, and incomplete passes. Pittsburgh took the lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Mason Rudolph connected with Diontae Johnson for the 71 yard touchdown. Then they put the nail in the coffin by tacking on a field goal. The final score was 17-10.

T.J . Watt suffered an injury during the game and did not return. The Steelers think it may be a grade 3 MCL sprain but more details will be forthcoming. T.J. Watt currently leads the league in sacks with 19. If they make the playoffs they will need Watt for sure. As for the Ravens, they get to enjoy a bye week as the playoffs get underway next week.
