Pirates Paul Skenes Pulled After Seven No-Hit Innings With 11 Strikeouts!

Petition for MLB pitchers to continue tossing if they are deep into having a no-hitter. What happened during Thursdays Pittsburgh game against the Milwaukee Brewers is exactly why there should be something in place for this particular situation. Baseball fans were witnessing pure magic. Before it was ripped away without fair warning. The Pirates Paul Skenes was pulled after a seven no-hit innings outing with 11 strikeouts.

Like unbelievable. Here is a guy having a stellar debut season in Major League Baseball. A contender for Rookie of the Year. With probably only an outfielder on the San Diego Padres (Jackson Merrill); in his way for receiving such an honor. Yet, here he is on his merry way to throwing a no-hitter and he is PULLED?!

In terms of entertainment, not a great moment in sports. Not great for baseball. He should have been allowed to go for it; IF he wanted.

Yes, we understand pitch count. Don’t want to overwhelm or overwork his young arm. He does have a long, promising career ahead of him. However, he also didn’t seem fatigued. Think about it.

Skenes leaves the game during his 11th career start allowing no one on base. Plus, it only takes him 6 pitches to get 3 outs in the 7th. He isn’t throwing wildly or missing his spots. So the guy looks to have more in his tank. He is literally only 6 more outs away from glory. So from a fan perspective… at least let the kid try.

However, Paul is a mature class act and has zero hard feelings about being pulled during his tremendous outing. Understanding his manager is not just thinking about the short term, but the long term future. The 22-year-old just wants what is best for the team to be successful. He says,

“I wasn’t going to be surprised either way, if he sent me out or pulled me. We have Holderman and (Aroldis) Chapman at the back end of our bullpen, so I think those are probably, I think, two of the best guys in the league so I have a ton of trust in them to finish it. Obviously in a 1-0 game you want to stay in there, you want to finish it, but the volume’s getting up there a little bit so I get it.”

Pirates Paul Skenes Pulled After Seven No-Hit Innings With 11 Strikeouts!

Nevertheless, since coming to the show Paul Skenes has been the best pitcher in baseball. No one is hurling from the mound like Skenes right now. He’s in a league of his own. A 2024 ALL STAR.

Just look at the numbers ladies and gentlemen. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan,

Paul Skenes’ final first-half numbers, after his seven-inning, no-hit, 11-strikeout gem today: 66.1 innings 48 hits 13 walks 89 strikeouts 7 home runs 1.90 ERA Opponent slash: .202/.251/.319 Average fastball velocity: 99.1 mph The best pitcher in MLB since his debut May 11.

Boom. Well, it would have been fun to see if Skenes could have got the last few outs. However, keeping him healthy is way better. He is an awesome athlete baseball fans will love to see for years to come. Plus, the bullpen did its job and the Pirates won anyway against the Brewers, 1-0. So moving on. Now let’s see if Skenes starts the All Star Game.
