Pirates Paul Skenes First MLB Player to toss 6 IP with 10+Ks and ZERO Hits in First 2 Starts
Somebody go ahead and place a crown on this young king’s head. He hasn’t even started more games than we can count on one hand yet; and already the guy is making Major League Baseball history. The Pirates Paul Skenes is the first MLB player to toss 6 IP with 10+Ks and ZERO hits within his first two career starts; no else has done so in the AL/NL. Furthermore, he also made a Pirates historical document as well… as the first pitcher in Pirates history with 11 strikeouts at Wrigley Field.
Skenes is continuing to show that his top notch talent is immense, and so far, hard to stop. Paul was drafted by the Pirates in 2023 as the overall number one pick. As a prospect he quickly made progress, completely devastating batter after batter. Before being drafted and even after; it became crystal clear… this guy is going to be an MLB STUD.
Nevertheless, how did Paul Skenes do in the minor leagues? Pretty freaking fantastic. Skenes was like a rocket, shooting through the minors with incredible ease. In 2024 he played with the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians, sporting a miniscule 0.99 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings. Impressive enough, however, he also made jaws drop when he failed to give up a run until his fifth start of the season. The man, the myth, a bonafide strikeout machine.
With a lot more baseball left in this season; Paul Skenes has a chance to really help the Pirates get more wins under their belt. And they have control of Skenes for the next several years. Pittsburgh is definitely building in the right direction with young talent and players.

If you look up the word dominant in the dictionary; you will find a nice pic of Paul and his mustache. Since calling him up; Paul has been exactly what the doctor ordered for Pittsburgh. An ace.
And today against the Chicago Cubs, things proved to be no different. With 81 pitches, Skenes had gotten through 5 no-hit frames with 10 Ks. At the 100 pitch mark, Paul had gotten through 6 no-hit frames with 11 Ks.
It wasn’t until the 7th inning that things finally changed for the Cubs. The Cub’s Christopher Morel comes to the plate and is finally able to break up the Pirates no-no bid. Thanks to a 2 out single off of reliever Carmen Mlodzinski.
But, even with this very slight hiccup; the Pirates are still able to pull off a win. They beat Chicago 9-3. Winning their 21st game of the season. Pittsburgh is inching back towards being at .500 and good pitching is helping them get there.
