Phillies On Fantastic Run As They Complete Another Sweep

Philadelphia is known as the “city of brotherly love”, but the Phillies are showing none of that lately to their opponents. In fact, the Phillies are on a fantastic run as they complete another sweep. This time the victims were the Tampa Bay Rays. Not only did they complete the sweep but they had to come from behind to do it. They came back from a four-run deficit in the eighth. In their past two series against the Nationals and Diamondbacks, they had won the first two games. But ended up losing the series finale both times. This had happened twice before in the season.

However, last night the Phillies said, “enough of that nonsense.” Bryson Stott had slammed in a three-run home run in the eighth inning to spark the Phillies’ 7-6 comeback victory over the Rays through 10 innings. Making it their first sweep since early April. But it has been about more than just sweeping an opponent for the Phillies as they have made improvements in many ways.

NBC10 sports anchor John Clark, posted several highlights about the Phillies on x.com (formerly twitter):

  • Trea Turner had another multi hit game last night and is batting over 400 over the last week, hitting 354 over the last 15 games, and has raised his average to 310 for the season. The Phillies as a team are slugging since Turner has turned it on.
  • The Phillies were 0-12 when trailing after 8 innings so far this season. They ended that streak with 6 unanswered runs and an amazing comeback in Tampa. The Phillies have scored 7 or more runs in 8 games during their streak winning 9 of 11.
  • The Phillies are a season high 7 games over 500 after sweeping Tampa Bay last night. The Phillies have won 9 of 11 games outscoring their opponents during that span 70 to 42.
  • The Phillies get their second sweep of the season. They have won 9 of 11 and have scored 7 runs in 8 of those games during this streak.

Commenting on the team’s resilience pitcher Jesús Luzardo had this to say:

“It’s just awesome,” said starter Jesús Luzardo, who gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings. “Just knowing that we’re never out of it. We’ve got a lot of potential in that lineup. And experience and star power. So anyone can do it, whether it’s coming off the bench or the starting lineup. We’re never out of it. It’s good to see and it was fun to watch.”

With the win last night the Phillies are just 1.5 games back of the surging New York Mets. This rivalry promises to heat up as the season moves forward. In the meantime, the Phillies face the Cleveland Guardians today. Both teams enter the contest with 22-15 records so expect some fireworks.
