Phillies Bryce Harper 1000th Run and Second 3-Homer Game!
The Man. The Legend. A Three Home Run KING. On a terribly frigid Tuesday night, the Phillies Bryce Harper gets his 1000th Run and Second 3-Homer Game!
It really doesn’t get more historic than that. Harper literally got his name put down in the historical records twice in one matchup against the Cincinnati Reds. For getting his 1000th career run. And for blasting three baseballs to kingdom come; recording a grand slam in the process.
It’s wild because we’re seeing so much action early on throughout the league. The Detroit Tigers are having one of their best starts in years (they’re 4-0). The Pirates and Brewers are also undefeated.
And now we got magic happening in the city of Brotherly Love. We’re barely into the season and already Bryce is finishing a game with a career-high six RBIs and drawing chants of “MVP!” from around 28,000 folks that have braved the wrath of nature; and are soaked from rain, from the ball cap down; and have all paid for the thrill. This is GREAT for baseball.
Harper becomes the 20th Phillies player to go deep three times in a game and the fifth to do so in the last 25 years. And this is the second time that he’s had a 3 home run game. His first occurred on May 6, 2015 against the Marlins.
However, no one is THAT surprised about Harper having such a legendary night. He’s the type of baller who is clutch, swings a mean bat; and will put his team on his back if need be. Phillies manager, Rob Thomson; feels the same about Bryce. Regarding Harper’s “three home run derby” Thomson states,
“That’s what the great players do. They have big nights like that. It’s always just a matter of time for him. He’s a great hitter. I don’t really get concerned with Bryce.”

So after such a huge night, what did Bryce himself have to say about it all? Well, he discussed how the elements and weather made it tough; but how he hopes this is a nice “springboard” for the Phillies team. Harper reveals,
“Any time you’re going out there playing in that cold weather, it’s not very fun. The way I could put it with you is, golfing in that weather, probably not very fun, right? Same thing for us going out there. It’s not the greatest. But getting those runs on the board were really big for us.
I wasn’t really thinking homer against Suter just because he has had my number. Just trying to get a hit right there and understand the situation. Obviously really cool to go deep right there.
On a personal note, it felt good. Going up there and hitting three homers was really cool.
Definitely happy the way the night went, but just want to keep going, turn the page. Hopefully this was the start of us winning [a World Series], you know? That’d be cool.”
Well, the Phillies are certainly in the driver’s seat. For the past couple of years they have successfully made the playoffs and had a World Series appearance. Therefore, they are definitely doing their best to knock on the championship door. And with Harper’s attitude and the team’s ability and chemistry; they might just get their wish soon.
