Philadelphia Eagles Fired Offensive Coordinator Kevin Patullo

Philadelphia Eagles Fired Offensive Coordinator Kevin Patullo

Why do it now, when many were clambering for it during the season? Especially since the offensive didn’t look nearly as cohesive or effective as it did during their 2024 Super Bowl run. Well better late than never as the saying goes. It was announced today that the Philadelphia Eagles have fired offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. After one season in that particular position, Patullo was given his walking papers. So for those keeping track the Eagles have now had five offensive coordinators in as many years.

This past Sunday the Eagles suffered a heart-breaking loss to the San Francisco 49ers, it seemed a change was needed. Therefore when head coach Nick Sirianni met with Patullo on Tuesday, he was given the bad news. Following is a statement from Sirianni regarding the firing:

“I have decided to make a change at offensive coordinator,” Head Coach Nick Sirianni said in the statement. “I met with Kevin today to discuss the difficult decision, as he is a great coach who has my utmost respect. He has been integral to this team’s success over the last five years, not only to the on-field product but behind the scenes as a valued leader for our players and organization. I have no doubt he will continue to have a successful coaching career.

“Ultimately, when we fall short of our goals that responsibility lies on my shoulders.”

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has long wanted to have continuity at the offensive coordinator position, but that hasn’t happened for him so far. In 2022 and 2024 Shane Steichen and Kellen Moore both left for head coaching jobs. In 2023 Brian Johnson was fired and now after being hired in 2025, Kevin Patullo is fired. Yet interestingly, when Hurts was asked if he was pushing for continuity this year he said, “It’s too soon to think about that,” Hurts said about Patullo. “I put my trust in Howie (Roesman), Nick (Sirianni) and Mr. (Jeffrey) Lurie.”

It appears the Eagles are still searching for an identity or “homebase” as Hurts called it. The change in coordinator doesn’t prevent them from being the best they can be, he went on to say, “The changes have not prevented us from having an opportunity from going on championship runs,” Hurts answered. “With all the changes and with all the things that have gone and changed over time, we’ve still found ourselves in the playoffs and we’ve still found ourselves in positions to be in the tournament and play in the tournament.”
After seeing the Eagles handily beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl last year, it was tough to watch them work so inefficiently this year. Whoever the Eagles install as the next offensive coordinator will have some tough work to do.
