Pete Crow-Armstrong and Chicago Cubs Are Finalizing Long-Term Contract Extension
His name kept popping up throughout the major league contract extension rumor mill. The Cubs once more stepped up negotiations not wanting to see their outfielder exit stage right from the Chicago organization. On Tuesday, the baseball franchise went on and made things official and locked up their guy for good. Pete Crow-Armstrong and the Chicago Cubs are finalizing a long-term contract extension (pending a physical). The deal cements the young center fielder as a foundational player at Wrigley Field.
Late Monday evening MLB insider, Jeff Passan had confirmed that the two sides were close to getting a contract completed. Passan at the time reported,
“BREAKING: Center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and the Chicago Cubs are finalizing a long-term contract extension, sources tell ESPN. Crow-Armstrong, coming off a 30-30 season and a Gold Glove, will get a big payday as the Cubs lock up a franchise-caliber talent.”
So then, Chicago’s efforts to keep Crow-Armstrong have finally paid off. They have been attempting to get a deal done for some time. Cubs officials and Crow-Armstrong’s agent, Ryan Hamill of CAA, had engaged in this process before, exchanging proposals around last year’s season-opening Tokyo Series. Even trying again last spring to work out some type of a deal. Amicably, they decided to table contract talks and revisit the concept later.
As USA Today’s Bob Nightengale recollects, “Pete Crow Armstrong, who bet on himself when he rejected the Cubs’ extension offer of a year ago, watches his patience pay off as he and the Cubs close on a $100-million plus contract extension. He’ll be the second-highest paid Cub behind only Alex Bregman.”
Nonetheless, what the Cubs really like about Pete is his commitment to growth. His focus and ability to enhance his game. For instance, Pete Crow-Armstrong hit 31 home runs last season after hitting 10 homers in 2024. He also became the first Cub in franchise history with a 30-30-30 season of this kind: 31 home runs, 35 stolen bases and 37 doubles. Lastly, Pete Crow-Armstrong now joins Sammy Sosa as the only Cubs players to record a 30 HR/30 SB season.

Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer commented on Pete during last year’s end-of-season briefing with the Chicago media. He said, “He’s still learning, so I expect him to keep getting better and better. It may be gradual. It may come all at once. But I have no question that he’ll continue to get better. The one thing with Pete that I always focus on is, when he’s not hitting or struggling offensively, he’s a great player. And when he’s hitting, he’s a superstar.”
Well, now this superstar is a Cub for the foreseeable future. Chicago got themselves a good one. Congratulations to Pete Crow-Armstrong.
