Pete Carroll is Expected to Be Out as Seahawks Head Coach

Pete Carroll is Expected to Be Out as Seahawks Head Coach

Big time shocker. There’s several names for weeks that have been floating around, when it comes to coaches getting the axe. However, this particular name, not so much. Nevertheless, in a postseason twist, Pete Carroll is expected to be out as the Seahawks Head Coach.

This seems a little out of left field (excuse the pun); when you look at Carroll’s work for the Seahawks across the board. His stats:

Pete Carroll’s tenure as head coach of the Seahawks
• 14 seasons
• Super Bowl XLVIII Champion
••Winning record in 11 of 14 seasons as head coach
•137 wins & .606 win pct are both highest in Seahawks franchise history
••10 playoff wins since 2010 (T-3rd in the NFL among head coaches)

Nevertheless, ESPN NFL Insider, Adam Schefter confirms the news, plus provides another interesting piece of intel. Adam states,

“A shocker in Seattle: Pete Carroll is expected to be out as the Seahawks head coach, per sources. He still could remain in the organization, but not as the head coach.”

Therefore, Carroll’s experience will still be put to good use. He’ll be with the Seahawks to help mold and shape them for the future. Just not as HC.

Furthermore, there’s now confirmation that this is truly the direction Carroll and Seattle are heading in together. Seahawks reporter, Brady Henderson, mentions that Seahawks Chair, Jody Allen, is adamant that Pete will remain in the Seattle organization. Henderson reports,

“After 14 seasons, 10 playoff appearances and the franchise’s lone Super Bowl title, Pete Carroll is out as Seahawks head coach. Jody Allen says Pete Carroll WILL remain with the Seahawks as an advisor. Carroll is scheduled to meet with the media this afternoon.

Pete Carroll said immediately after the Cardinals game on Sunday that he planned to continue coaching the Seahawks. He reiterated that Monday on his radio show. Two days later, the Seahawks announced that he’s out as coach but will remain with the organization as an advisor.”

Pete Carroll No Longer Seahawks Head Coach

So then, who could possibly fill the HC role next with the Seattle Seahawks? You don’t just move a guy like Pete Carroll without someone in mind. Just like you don’t randomly move a piece during a game of chess. Otherwise, rather quickly you could be facing a checkmate.

Well, Adam Schefter and Brady Henderson have a hunch. Schefter reveals,

“Seattle is expected to be interested in, amongst others, in Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, per sources. Quinn worked with Seattle from 2009-2010, and again 2013-14.”

Henderson backs up Adam’s thought process with some details regarding Quinn. Brady says,

“Quinn was the Seahawks’ DC during their two Super Bowl seasons. The steady decline of that unit since then is as big of a reason as any as to why the Seahawks are looking for a new head coach.”

Let’s finish up with the official statement from Jody Allen. Allen provides additional information as to why the decision regarding Pete Carroll was made. The statement reads:

“After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise; we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from Head Coach to remain with the organization as an advisor.

Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, brought the city its first Super Bowl title, and created a tremendous impact over the past 14 years on the field and in the community.

His expertise in leadership and building a championship culture will continue as an integral part of our organization moving forward.

Pete will always be a beloved member of the Seahawks family.”

Man, end of an era. However, it will be interesting to see what Pete advises Seattle to do next.
