Pete Carroll And Tom Brady Welcome Geno Smith With Open Arms

Pete Carroll And Tom Brady Welcome Geno Smith With Open Arms

It was a little bit surprising that the Seattle Seahawks parted ways with their starting quarterback. However, it wasn’t surprising that he was quickly reunited with his former head coach. The two had spent time together at Seattle prior to the club releasing their former head coach. So it makes sense that not only Pete Carroll but also Tom Brady gave a big welcome to Geno Smith with open arms. We previously reported that Geno Smith was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders. Now details about his contract have been revealed.

Seattle traded him to Las Vegas for a 2025 third-round pick in March. Whereas Smith got the longevity and stability that he craved. He agreed to a two-year, $75 million extension that is worth up to $85.5 million and includes $66.5 million guaranteed. Smith was entering the final year of his three-year, $75 million deal that he had previously signed as a member of the Seahawks.  Therefore, with the new extension the 12-year veteran will be with the Raiders for the foreseeable future.

Head coach Pete Carroll is happy to be reunited with his former quarterback. Carroll praised Smith when he said:

“He’s going to bring us great stability and belief in the kinds of things that we stand for,” Carroll said, via Pro Football Talk. “His habits are so, so stellar. The way he works, the way he looks at the game, the way he looks at the challenges of it all is exactly in line with the way we think. … I think it gives us instant stability in a crucial spot. The history that we have and my understanding of G, and how to help him be the best he can be, and he knows how to bring out the best in our system because he’ll stand for the competitiveness and the things that we believe in.”

Smith is also looking forward to working with former superstar quarterback and minority owner, Tom Brady. Smith detailed his conversation with Brady saying:

“What I was talking to Tom about, this is something he said, and this is true: ‘We don’t want to celebrate contracts. We want to celebrate wins,'” Smith said. “And the thing is, that just kind of set the tone for the team. This is our quarterback. This is the direction we’re headed. And there’s no gray area there. Everything’s set in stone. And when you have that, when you can set a real plan, then you can get things going. As far as the contract, I’m very grateful, very thankful, very appreciative. But my main focus is go out there and win games, set the tone and be a better version than anyone’s ever seen of me.”

It sounds like all parties involved are happy with the transaction. We’ll see if Smith, Carroll and Brady can get the Raiders back to their former winning ways.
