Patriots Got Upset Win Over Steelers on Thursday Night Football
I didn’t expect the Patriots to win this game. However, that’s exactly what they did. The Patriots got the upset win over the Steelers on Thursday Night Football. I’m sure Mike Tomlin was hoping to get some revenge on Bill Belichick. After all the Patriots have routinely beaten the Steelers, during Bill Belichick’s tenure. But it was not to be last night; and so Tomlin’s record against the Patriots falls to 3-10. Although the Steelers have played erratically this season so I really shouldn’t be surprised that they lost.
The Patriots opened the game with a successful touchdown drive. And they looked pretty sharp doing it. The Steelers responded with a 56 yard field goal so things were looking very competitive. However, QB Mitchell Trubisky threw an interception in the first quarter. But it was negated due to a penalty on the Patriots’ defense. Then to open the second quarter Trubisky threw another interception and this one counted. Jabril Peppers took it to the Pittsburgh 11 yard line. Three plays later Bailey Zappe hit Hunter Henry for an eight yard touchdown. With 14 points on the board, the Patriots had scored more points than they had in their prior three games.
Zappe Bailey connected with Hunter Henry again scoring a 24 yard touchdown. Pittsburgh answered with a 25 yard touchdown of their own. The game went into halftime with New England up 21-10.

The action cooled off in the second half with neither team scoring any points in the third quarter. The quarter ended with Zappe being intercepted. But Pittsburgh couldn’t capitalize on it. Despite starting on New England’s 16 yard line they couldn’t pick up a first down. They needed two yards but got one and turned the ball over on downs. New England then had to punt and it was blocked. This time the Steelers made the most of their excellent field position. In six plays they scored a touchdown and the two-point conversion.
The Patriots didn’t score any more points but neither did the Steelers. So the Patriots held on for the 21-18 victory. I wonder if they should have made the quarterback change sooner. There’s no guarantee Zappe would have had better results, but they couldn’t have been any worse.
