Patrick Mahomes And Hollywood Brown To Play On Saturday
Last week he suffered an ankle injury that looked like it might be serious. The other joined Kansas City in the offseason via free agency as the Chiefs were looking to beef up their undermanned receiving corps. And now it appears both Patrick Mahomes and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown are to play on Saturday in the game against the Houston Texans. Kansas City announced today that Brown has been activated from injured reserve.
On the first play of the preseason Brown suffered a clavicle injury. Initially it was thought Brown could come back pretty quickly and was expected to return sometime in September. But that wasn’t the case and he ended up on injured reserve after undergoing surgery on his affected SC joint. Brown’s return is coming at a good time due to the loss of WR Rashee Rice with a knee injury. They have rookie WR Xavier Worthy but he has been somewhat inconsistent. The Chiefs are hoping Brown helps open up their air attack as they attempt to hang onto their lead atop the AFC.
As for Mahomes, his ankle was injured during the Chiefs win over the Cleveland Browns last Sunday. Carson Wentz filled in for Mahomes finishing the game. Tests on Monday confirmed that he suffered a mild high ankle sprain. It was thought that he would be doubtful to play against the Texans on Saturday. However, Mahomes has been a full participant in practice this week, signaling his expected availability for Saturday’s game against the AFC South champs.

According to head coach Andy Reid:
“I wasn’t sure. I’ve been through it with him before, and he amazes me every time he does it,” Reid said on Thursday when asked if he thought Mahomes would have been able to make this turnaround.
“That guy, he’s so mentally tough. It’s just a mindset he has going into it. So where he was a few days ago, yeah, I’d probably say it was a long shot. But he’s done well with it.”
So we’ll see Mahomes and Brown out there on the field tomorrow. But both need to be careful because the Texans have a top five defense in pressure. And have allowed the least amount of completions by a quarterback. They’re 9th in points per game, 4th in total yards per game and 2nd in sacks and takeaways. It won’t be easy for Mahomes to elude that defense playing on a sprained ankle. Nevertheless it should still be an entertaining game.
The Houston at Kansas City game will start at 1:00 PM EST. And Pittsburgh at Baltimore will be at 4:30 PM EST. Enjoy!
