Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Destination Pont Alexandre III
Hey friends we’re back and it’s time to share another Paris classic with you. The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Destination Pont Alexandre III is up next. Pont Alexandre III is regarded as one of the most beautiful bridges over the Seine River.
It is named in honor of Russian Tsar Alexander III. He brokered the Franco-Russian Alliance of 1892. And it’s meant to be a symbol of the peaceful relationship between France and Russia. During the 1900 World Fair the bridge was inaugurated. It is a connector between Hotel des Invalides on the Left Bank and the Grand Palais on the Right Bank.
As far as the Olympics are concerned, Pont Alexandre III will serve as one of the open air venues in Paris. Taking place will be the individual Cycling Time trials, the Swimming Marathon, and the Triathlon. It’s a beautiful landmark which will likely impress both the athletes and spectators. It will be an opportunity for everyone to appreciate its Beaux-Arts and Art Nouveau styles.
At each end of the bridge are two huge 17 meter (55 feet) granite columns. Atop each column is a gilded bronze winged horse (Pegasus). The four pylons represent Arts, Sciences, Commerce, and Industry. There are other artistic details on the bridge such as plants, animals, nymphs and cherubs. The bridge is a great place to take a stroll day or night. It provides sweeping views of the Grand Palais, the Petit Palais, and the Eiffel Tower.

Besides all of the glorious artwork of the bridge, it’s also ideally located. You can go shopping on the Champs Elysees, take a guided Segway tour, or dine at any number of restaurants. Or as you stroll around the bridge you can soak up some global culture. You’ll see and hear people from all over the world, taking wedding photos, doing photo shoots, or you can wave at them as they cruise by on tour boats.
The excitement in the air is palpable. Best of all the sunsets on the bridge are simply spectacular. You’ll definitely want to put that on your to-do list if you come for the Olympics. I’m glad that Pont Alexandre III, which is also a historical monument, will be rightfully be featured during the games.
