Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Destination Notre-Dame de Paris

Hello fellow sports feens it’s that time again! Today we’re visiting the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics destination Notre-Dame de Paris. It’s also simply known as Notre Dame. The Roman Catholic cathedral is situated in the eastern half of the Ile de la Cité. That’s a small piece of land located in the middle of the Seine river. So relax you Fighting Irish fans, we’re not going to Indiana.

However, as a sports fan there have probably been many times when you sent up a prayer in behalf of your favorite team. So while attending the Paris 2024 Olympic games you may want to stop by the cathedral and silently say a few words. But we are not guaranteeing any results.

Anyway, the cathedral has been around for quite some time. Construction began in 1163 and was completed in 1345. It’s considered to be some of the finest gothic architecture not just in France but in all of Europe. Unfortunately, due to the 2019 fire it is closed to the public. So we’ll use our imaginations for this trip.

The cathedral is famous for the many gargoyles that can be seen on the roof. Although it’s arduous, it’s highly recommended that you climb the 387 steps to reach the top of the towers. It’s worth the trip to see the panoramic views and up close looks at those gargoyles. Once you have finished taking in the views and return to the ground you will want to stroll around the whole cathedral.

You’ll gain an appreciation for gothic architecture that has stood the test of time. There are also other attractions in this district such as the Palais de Justice and the archaeological Crypt of Notre Dame.

Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Destination Notre Dame de Paris

No doubt you will enjoy seeing Notre Dame de Paris. We can thank Victor Hugo for immortalizing this masterpiece in his novel Les Miserables and naturally, the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Perhaps you might peruse one of his works as you sit on one of the terraces of the Place Dauphine. At any rate, the attraction is set to reopen in December 2024.

However, we can always hope for a miracle that it will be open in time for the Olympics. Au revoir!
