Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Destination Musée d’Orsay

It’s time to skip across the pond again. Today the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Destination Musée d’Orsay is on tap. Art lovers are sure to swoon over this beautiful Parisian landmark. Although it does not receive as many visitors as its famous cousin, the Louvre, it’s still quite popular. It is filled with plenty of beautiful artwork. And some would say the building itself, in the Belle Epoch style, is a work of art.

Our previous post regarding the Louvre noted that a visitor could spend days touring the entire museum. That’s all well and good but if you are in a hurry then Musée d’Orsay would be a good fit. As the crowds are smaller, it is possible to tour the whole museum in just a few hours. Don’t get me wrong the museum still gets plenty of visitors. But the smaller crowds make navigation simpler.

Inside the museum you’ll find Impressionist works of art by Cezanne, Monet, Degas, Van Gogh , and other great masters. There are also gorgeous furniture displays and magnificent sculptures. A guided tour of the masterpieces is available to adults. The tour is not recommended for children under 13. They do offer guided tours for families with children.

Tickets are about $17 for adults and about $14 for children. The museum is closed on Mondays. All other days it is open from 9:30am – 6:00pm, except on Thursday they close at 9:45pm. It’s a must for all visitors to go to the balcony at the top of the museum. You’ll find a huge transparent clock. Looking through the clock will give you an amazing view of Sacre-Coeur in Montmarte.

Once you have finished your tour you can eat the Musée d’Orsay restaurant. Some people have said it is the most beautiful restaurant they have ever dined at. Since the museum is located in the Ile de France district many of the Olympic venues will be close by. You can also check out Jardin des Tuileries located in the Place de la Concorde. The garden landscaping is pretty and serene.

Paris has much to offer culturally and artistically and the Musée d’Orsay is no exception. Try to schedule a visit while enjoying the games. You won’t be disappointed. Au revoir!
