Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Destination Hotel de Ville

Bonjour Sports Feens! It’s time for us to take another trip across the pond. This article is about the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics destination Hotel de Ville. In English, Hotel de Ville is translated as city hall or town hall. Therefore, Hotel de Ville is the city hall of Paris. It has served as the headquarters of the municipality of Paris since 1357. It currently houses the local government council and the Paris Mayors and their cabinets.

However, it also serves as a venue for large receptions. And it’s a hot spot for exhibitions and other cultural attractions. In December it hosts one of the most beautiful  Christmas Markets in Paris and boasts an outdoor ice skating rink. Obviously you won’t be able to see the market during the Olympics. But it may be something you would like to add to  your bucket list.

So having said all that you may be thinking who cares about the city hall of Paris? Well if you are attending the games in Paris, the Hotel de Ville will be one of the main Olympics venues. Which makes since because Hotel de Ville is located right in the center of Paris. Additionally, it will be the backdrop for the athletes participating in the Marathon.

Also, you will want to pay a visit to the Parvis of the Hotel de Ville. There is always something happening there no matter what time of year it is. It’s a large area in front of the building and the place where you would find the skating rink in December. There is also a children’s carousel which a permanent fixture in the area.

On a gruesome side note, this was also where the guillotine was located during the French Revolution. Happily it’s a much happier place to be now. When important national sporting events take place large screens are often set up in the Parvis for the public to view. Most likely that will be the case when the Olympics get underway.

If you plan on visiting the Hotel de Ville it is open Monday – Saturday from 10AM to 6PM. The interior is gorgeous and not to be missed. All temporary exhibits are free of charge so check it out. Au Revoir.
