Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Destination Montmartre

Well hello sports feens and welcome to another Paris 2024 Summer Olympics destination Montmartre. We will take a quick peak at the most charming and artistic district in Paris, Montmartre. It’s located in the 18th arrondissement at the top of a small hill that is 130 m or 427 feet high. We love the district because it’s home to famous artists of the past and burgeoning artists of the present.

When watching sports we are often treated to athletic masterpieces; such as when a football player tiptoes along the sideline to score a winning touchdown. Or when a baseball player leaps over the catcher to make it home safely. These kind of plays are unforgettable and live on in the legends of sports lore. It’s no different in Montmartre.

Famous artists like Renoir, Degas, and Gauguin were parisian artists who live on in museums around the world. Artists like them have helped to make montmartre famous and the village still boasts a healthy, thriving artistic community. While strolling through the narrow, cobblestone streets you will see many artists selling their works. In fact some people even call it the artists neighborhood.

Imagine purchasing the work of an artist who later becomes famous. You could be the proud owner of the work of the next Cezanne or Manet.

However, the district is primarily divided into two areas. The artistic, bohemian section and the nightclub section with the sex shops and cabarets which includes the world-famous Moulin Rouge. Whatever your pleasure, there is plenty to do in Montmartre. There are quaint bistros, museums, and great city views.

Last but not least is the Sacré-Cœur or properly known as Basilica of the Sacred Heart in English. You have the choice of taking the 197 steps to the top or the funicular. The funicular is an automated railway (sort of like a tram) that takes 90 seconds to get to the top of the hill. Once you reach the top you can take a nice stroll, enjoy dinner, or watch the artists work.

As sports feens we enjoy the artistic grace of athletes. So while you’re in Paris take a moment to enjoy the famous art district and beautiful village of Montmartre. It’s truly a work of art. Au revoir!
