Paige Bueckers Inducted Into UConn’s Huskies of Honor
She has EARNED this honor. Her college stats and performance has etched her name into the slabs of basketball greatness and now her school has made sure no one shall ever forget. On Senior Day, Paige Bueckers was inducted into UConn’s Huskies of Honor.
To give you a quick idea as to why Paige is deserving of her flowers. Especially, if you haven’t had time to follow her or college basketball much. Chew on this one sports fun fact. As OptaStats so eloquently explains:
“In the 21st century, only one Division I player has had:
2000+ points
500+ rebounds
500+ assists
50.0+ FG%
40.0+ 3P%
80.0+ FT% … in his or her career.
That one player is UConn Women’s Basketball’s Paige Bueckers.”
Wild. But when it comes to UConn’s greatest ballers, Bueckers is among good company. Many great former high school players over the years have been drawn to UConn. These extraordinary talents went on to be some of the WNBA’s finest. Future students will herald that they had the privilege of playing where Diana Taurasi played, where Maya Moore played, Sue Bird, Rebecca Lobo and Swin Cash and… Paige Bueckers.
Furthermore, Paige is now the 23rd Huskies women’s basketball player to be inducted in the Huskies of Honor program. The most recent Huskies players to receive induction are Minnesota Lynx standout Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson of the Seattle Storm, who were each inducted during the 2019 season.
Paige Bueckers Inducted Into UConn’s Huskies of Honor
John Fanta, a FOX college hoops reporter excitedly covered Paige’s Huskies of Honor ceremony. And had another cool UConn fact to share with the masses. He states,
“An amazing scene at Gampel as Paige Bueckers is honored on UConn’s Senior Day. One of the best to ever come through Storrs.
Paige Bueckers is inducted into UConn’s Huskies of Honor. One of just two players in Connecticut women’s basketball history to reach 2,000 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists, and 200 steals (Maya Moore). The legend continues.”
Yes, Maya Moore was a BEAST. Even when she got to the W she instantly made her presence known. Moore won four WNBA championships with the Minnesota Lynx; from 2011-2017. Important years to keep in mind when you consider she was the number one overall pick in the 2011 draft and that year’s ROTY. She would go on to be a six-time WNBA All-Star and was selected to the All-WNBA First Team five times.
And now, soon we will have Paige in the WNBA. What can we expect to see? Well, if we base the future on past UConn players… expect LEGENDARY GREATNESS.
