Padres Yu Darvish Holds Record for Most Combined Wins in NPB and MLB History

It is time once again to change the historical records and documents. The San Diego Padres’ Yu Darvish now holds the record for the most combined wins in NPB and MLB history, passing the great Hiroki Kuroda. Thus, making Yu the winningest pitcher in Japanese history. Congratulations to him.

Amazingly, with 204 wins underneath his belt Yu still looks dominant on the mound. Darvish is coming into the season late; but at a good time for San Diego. Especially, as the push towards the postseason begins.

After dealing with injury (right elbow inflammation), Darvish wanted to make a slight change when it came to velocity. No one knows their body quite like Yu, who felt at this stage of his career, slowing his pitches down a tad for a brief time would help as he continues to adjust to a heavier workload. This decision so far seems to be paying off.

Especially, when you look at what Darvish accomplished during San Diego’s latest sweep of the New York Mets. Yu pitched game three and was nothing short of spectacular. He went seven full innings keeping New York on their toes with a repertoire of pitches heavy with sinkers and sliders. By the way, this is Darvish’s first 7-inning game in over a year.

The Mets did not score one single run off of Darvish. And didn’t get on base much. Darvish kept NY mainly going from the dugout to the plate then back to the dugout. An amazing feat by a pitcher in his late thirties against an above .500 team.

But with the trade deadline looming, the Friar Faithful has to be feeling pretty good. Seeing the offense coming alive, Michael King feeling good/ rehabbing and Darvish looking like the Yu of old. Of course, there’s some questions with Cease and at other positions. However, there are still plenty of positives to focus on instead.

San Diego sweeps the Mets for the first time since 2008. They are on a 5 game winning streak and are 11 games over .500. Additionally, Yu Darvish gets his first W in 2025 with 7 IP, only allowing 2 hits, and striking out 7. If the Padres stay hot they are certainly a team that can have a strong finish to this season and be serious contenders in the playoffs.
