Padres Xander Bogaerts Hurts Shoulder as Team Wins Braves Series

It has been a very long weekend; especially, for Atlanta and San Diego. The weather was not kind on Saturday night forcing a weather delay. Ultimately, the game was canceled and rescheduled for Monday; placing both teams in a doubleheader situation. Unfortunately, during the first game the Padres Xander Bogaerts hurts his shoulder; but the silver lining is that his team ends up winning the series against the Braves.

Xander is currently dealing with mild inflammation. During the play that causes Bogaerts to have to leave the game; he stretches out and slams to the ground to makes a diving catch. He attempts to stop a Ronald Acuña Jr. ground ball. The Braves score for one last time. However, Xander sacrificed his body for the greater good in that tense moment.

Nevertheless, the Padres are demonstrating that they have a very different fight and attitude than the disappointing 2023 season. They are spraying line drives all over the field, instead of swinging for the fences. And they are… checks notes… coming from behind?!

Yep. A team in the past that would go down and you may have just assumed they would never recover; are experiencing comeback after comeback. And against very solid, and good teams. They have now won series against the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves. With plenty of season left, the Padres could do what they narrowly missed out accomplishing last season; making the playoffs.

However, to do that, they will need to stay healthy. It is an all hands on deck situation. The ball club needs their core players to play up to their potential while Profar, Cronenworth, Arraez and Merrill continue to put ball to barrel.

Therefore, speaking of health, what is the word on Xander Bogaerts. Well, after leaving the game, the Padres immediately investigated his shoulder to get an idea of the extent of the damage. The Athletic’s Kevin Acee reports,

“Preliminary imaging negative on Xander Bogaerts’ shoulder. That’s good news for now. Padres awaiting further results.”

Additionally, manager Mike Shildt followed up by stating,

“So far we’re going to get some more imaging. The initial imaging is negative, so it’s positive. He’s got some stability more than it looked like he might have, and he’s got some strength in some range of motion. More time will tell, but the initial feedback is the best-case scenario.”

Therefore, sounds like some positive news for Padres fans. Recently, it seemed like Xander was beginning to find his groove at the plate. So then, hopefully this shoulder injury does not prove to be severe and he can be back in the lineup soon.
