Padres Manny Machado Hits 164th Home Run the Most in Padres History

He signed a major contract extension with San Diego for over $300 million. And on Tuesday night he showed why he is worth every cent. During a matchup against the Seattle Mariners, the Padres Manny Machado hits his 164th home run the most in Padres history. Now he stands alone as the franchise’s home run leader.

How’d he do it? It was all thanks to a 96.5 mph fastball. Manny recognized the pitch and demolished it with ease. In a display of sheer power Machado smashes the ball, according to Statcast; a projected 429 feet out to center field for a two-run homer that put San Diego up, 5-2.

This means Machado now has nine seasons with 25 homers or more — tied for second among active players with Mike Trout. And his 339 career home runs rank sixth among active players. An elite athlete.

After becoming SD’s home run king and all time deep bomb expert, Machado stated,

“It feels great. Special moment. To be honored and be something in the record books of San Diego for the rest of my career… I’m just grateful to hit as many as I could and be an impact on this organization.”

Well, Manny’s impact is undeniable. San Diego is having a very great season. With just a few weeks to go, they find themselves in the top wild card spot. And just a few games behind Los Angeles; therefore, making winning the division a challenge; yet not an entirely impossible outcome.

Nevertheless, the team has had a lot to battle through. The franchise lost its beloved owner in late 2023. Then watched as one of their star players was traded to the Yankees for a nice haul which included talent rich pitching options; (and a catcher that’s also been a home run threat). Moreover, to add to the list of “stresses” for most of the offseason San Diego only had one known outfielder, and an incomplete SP roster. Yet still, they grab Cease in route to Korea; they start a homegrown rookie in CF; dealt with a grueling schedule, injuries galore and survived a payroll cut of around $90 million.

Many organizations would crumble under the weight of such trials. San Diego… has thrived. A team born from the fire, now finds themselves 8 wins away from a 90 win season under AJ Preller. Much of this success has to be credited to AJ and the moves he made to create a winning culture on the field; in the dugout as well as inside the clubhouse.

But others have emerged as leaders in SD. One being Manny Machado. Manny spurs on the Padres team with his electric play. With his defensive throws from 3rd that seem to defy gravity. Plus, his obliterated baseballs that result in numerous home runs all year; Manny is a force, and huge component in San Diego’s success.

With his latest homer he joins a nice list of Padres.

San Diego Home Run Leaders

Manny Machado: 164

Nate Colbert: 163

Adrian Gonzalez: 161

Phil Nevin: 156

Dave Winfield: 154

It’s great to see Manny at the top. He’s earned it. But also tipping a cap to Colbert whose 163 homers have stood for some time now. Something to the tune of… HALF A CENTURY. Furthermore, Nate played in San Diego Stadium with its original dimensions. Therefore, it only goes to show how good Colbert really was in his day, and now.

Nevertheless, it also shows that the Padres franchise is changing for the better. Guys are staying long enough to make real roots (and records) with the team. When in the past that just wasn’t the case.

Therefore, seeing Manny blast homers in a San Diego uniform is amazing. He’s changing the game. He’s changing the legacy of the Padres forever.
