Pacific Northwest Pounding Delivered By San Francisco 49ers

Coming into the contest with a record of 2-3 it felt like a must-win game. But it felt just as critical for the Seattle Seahawks despite their 3-2 record. So everyone expected a knock-down, drag-out fight. But what we got was a Pacific Northwest pounding delivered by the San Francisco 49ers to the Seattle Seahawks.

The beating started with an interception of Geno Smith on the Seahawks’ opening drive. Brock Purdy moved his offense down the field 90 yards but had to settle for a 25-yard field goal. Seattle had no luck running the football causing them to punt often. Then they fumbled a kick return which the 49ers recovered and turned into a field goal. Amazingly no penalties were called in the game until about 20 seconds left in the first quarter.

To open the third quarter the 49ers scored a touchdown thanks to a toe-tapping 10-yard catch by George Kittle. But on the kickoff return Laviska Schnenault Jr. made a defender missed and took it to the house for a 97-yard touchdown return. His score gave Seattle life getting his team back in the game by closing the score gap to 23-10. Their comeback continued after the Seahawks’ defense stopped the 49ers. Geno Smith then led the offense down the field and punched in another touchdown, making it a one-score game.

But disaster struck again for the Seahawks when a pass intended for D.K. Metcalf was intercepted by Renardo Green in the fourth quarter. The 49ers only needed to go 15 yards to score a touchdown which they did on a nine-yard reception by Kittle again. Seattle kept fighting and went 80 yards in 4:36 to score another touchdown.

However, the 49ers remained in control as they responded with an 81 yard drive that took 27 seconds. Mostly because Isaac Guerendo ran for 76 yards from the 49ers 19 yard line to the Seahawks 5-yard line. Two plays later Kyle Juszczyk ran the ball in for the 6-yard touchdown effectively ending the comeback for Seattle. The 49ers won the game 36-24.

The Seahawks were manhandled by the 49ers and couldn’t run the ball. And their receivers dropped passes and didn’t fight for the ball or go get it. In contrast the 49ers were able to run the ball at will, piling up 229 rushing yards. And they improved in their red zone production finally getting the ball in the end zone.

Seattle needs to get back to their early season form when they were 3-0. The 49ers need to build on tonight’s success.
