Orioles Jackson Holliday’s First Home Run in the MLB is a Grand Slam
It is not like Baltimore really needs tons of reinforcements… they are already a GOOD team. This season they are demonstrating that they are clearly a force to be reckoned with (leading the MLB pack with 65 wins along with the Guardians; Yankees and Phillies). However, it is comforting for the franchise and all of its fans to know that there is still plenty of talent being developed and coming along nicely. For instance, the Orioles Jackson Holliday’s first Home Run in the MLB is a Grand Slam.
Yes, all home runs are cool. But a Grand Slam will always be a sight to behold because they are more rare. This isn’t just our thinking either. Major League Baseball states,
“Only 2.4 percent of home runs hit since the start of the 2000 season have come with the bases loaded. Perhaps it’s the rare nature of the grand slam that has kept it being included among the most memorable homers in baseball history.”
So then, Holliday has now joined the “rarity” club. Doing something that some ball players might never do. Or something some fans may never see in person.
And he is in good company. Players to hit Grand Slams in this modern era include: Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Fernando Tatis Jr, Bryce Harper, Manny Ramirez, Juan Soto, Mookie Betts, Mike Trout, Manny Machado and Trea Turner. To name a few.
But if Jackson wants to one own the grand slam record; he has a ways to go. He will have to surpass Alex Rodriguez who has 25 career grand slams. Rodriguez had surpassed Lou Gehrig who ended his legendary career with 23.

Nevertheless, Jackson’s Grand Slam is a positive for his confidence and the Baltimore ball club to keep their confidence in him strong. Initially when the Orioles brought Holliday up earlier in the season; he just did not perform up to expectations. The number one pick in the 2022 draft went 2 for 34 at the plate with 18 strikeouts and not surprisingly, was sent back down. However, being just 20 years old, he still has plenty of time to figure things out.
Nonetheless, after being sent down and is now back up; things are already going much differently for the young ball player. In his first at bat he knocks it out the park. Earning himself some well-deserved RBIs in the process. Jackson feels like his struggles helped him pinpoint some weaknesses and work on them. And feels like this call up will not be the same. He says,
“Obviously, this is the best league in the world, and [I] definitely got shown that. I feel like I’m definitely more prepared than I was last time.
That was my goal last time. It’s definitely my goal this time, to be able to come up here and help this team win and, hopefully, make a long playoff run.”
Well, Jackson certainly accomplished his mission today. The Orioles went on to defeat the Bluejays. Winning the game 10-4.
