Oklahoma City Thunder Announce Coliseum Continental New Arena Set to Open in 2028

They won a championship for their fans and now the organization will be building a new home for all in their city to enjoy basketball action on another level; and for years to come. On Tuesday morning, the Oklahoma City Thunder announced the Coliseum Continental a new state-of-the-art arena set to open in 2028. The entertainment center and space will be a proud, treasured landmark of the ever-changing fabric of downtown Oklahoma City.

This arena will be coming to fruition at long last due to a partnership between the OKC franchise and Continental Resources. A partnership that is now in place for well over a decade. Headquartered in Oklahoma City, Continental Resources is the largest privately held oil and natural gas producer in the world. Nevertheless, the Thunder’s social media pages heralded the news of the arena with the following announcement:

“We’re proud to announce Continental Coliseum, a 15-year signature partnership with Continental Resources for the new state-of-the-art arena rising in downtown OKC and set to open in 2028. As a company founded and built in Oklahoma, Continental shares the Thunder’s deep commitment to the community. Together we are committed to OKC, focused on the future, and excited to see Continental Coliseum come to life!”

Harold Hamm, founder & chairman emeritus of Continental Resources mentioned why this partnership is special and right up CR’s alley. Hamm states,

“When the Thunder came to Oklahoma City, they changed the way this state saw itself. They proved that even a small market can dream big, compete with anyone, and win with heart and grit. That same spirit has defined Continental from the beginning. We’re proud to call Oklahoma home.

Continental could not be more proud to partner with the Thunder in this next chapter. The Thunder is a world-class organization that represents the very best of Oklahoma.”

Will Syring, vice president of Corporate Partnerships for the Thunder adds,

“This partnership builds on a strong, long-standing relationship rooted in shared values and a shared vision for Oklahoma City.

What we’ve accomplished together to date made this a natural next step. This expanded collaboration goes beyond naming rights; it represents a meaningful commitment to community investment, including support for literacy initiatives that will benefit Oklahomans across our state.”
