OKC Thunder SGA to Cover NBA 2K26
Stretch those fingers, grab a controller because the time has come. Where a new cover and star is revealed. Who gets the honor this year? OKC Thunder’s very own SGA is set to cover NBA 2K26; and he has built an impressive résumé which demonstrates why he is worthy of being the face of this world renowned game title.
But is this really a surprise to anyone? Nah lol. In fact, Ronnie Singh, better known as Ronnie 2K, the Digital Marketing Director for 2K Games; basically had let the cat out the bag awhile ago. Ronnie had mentioned,
“The guys that we work with, are people that authentically play and are historians of 2K. He is just a delight to work with, he is a really good dude and he obviously aligns with a lot of the things that we align with with fashion and music,” said Ronnie 2K last August when discussing Gilgeous-Alexander. “I’d like to say he is a future cover athlete, one day I hope that happens.”
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Covers NBA2K26
Well, looks like Ronnie’s little prophecy came true. Plus, Shai’s rising stock in the league just made him an undeniable shoo-in. If you look up 2024-2025 sports history, you’ll find Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s name front and center. He’s coming off one unbelievable season; full of numerous accolades and achievements. Just throughout this past year he’s not only appeared in a Summer Olympics; but he has won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award, along with a scoring title, an All-Star nod, All-NBA honors; Western Conference Finals MVP and NBA Finals MVP.
As a result, the Thunder’s star player has earned himself quite a name. And he is about take things to another level in a different realm. Sports gaming. Where his talent will be utilized and harnessed for “thumbs” across the country and around the globe.
Furthermore, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finds himself in very good company. NBA2K has had a lot of youth, icons, Olympians and champions grace the cover. For instance, in the last half decade gamers have seen Jayson Tatum, Luka Doncic, Damien Lillard, Devin Booker and the legendary Kobe Bryant get the honor of being the cover star. So, fans of the game have been treated to a large plethora of greatness.
Nevertheless, Gilgeous-Alexander was rated a 96 overall when NBA 2K25 released last year, but finished the season with a 98 rating. Therefore, it will be interesting to see where he sits for the release of NBA 2K26.
SGA will be the face of the standard edition of NBA 2K26. The game is set to drop in September. Shai will then be the first Thunder player to grace the cover of the game since NBA 2K15; when Kevin Durant held that honor.

While NBA 2K26 won’t release until September, several weeks before the start of the 2025-26 season. It’s confirmed that pre-orders will begin tomorrow. Furthermore, Gilgeous-Alexander will be part of a larger group of cover athletes; as the gaming franchise is expected to release several editions alongside the standard that features the Thunder star.
Nonetheless, to reveal SGA as the next cover star of 2026, NBA2K’s social media page just reposted a Shams Charania post. Charania had stated,
“[It is the] Summer of SGA: MVP award, league scoring title, an NBA championship, Finals MVP, a $285 million super max extension, first signature shoe release … and now Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will grace the new cover of NBA 2K26, per sources.”
So then, we are sure a more in-depth rollout for this edition is on the horizon. But for now SGA is certainly riding high. On and off the court he is doing it big in the game (sorry for the pun; had to do it). And we are sure there is more in store for SGA in the future.
