OKC Thunder Point Guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Wins 2025 NBA MVP
There were several in the running, but only one could be named. After putting up some serious numbers Oklahoma City’s superstar snagged the league’s huge honor. On Wednesday, it was finally revealed that OKC Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won the 2025 NBA MVP accolade.
Therefore, Shai is making some history, since the Canadian basketball player finds himself in good company. Following in the footsteps of another legendary countryman. With this most valuable player honor; Shai Gilgeous-Alexander now joins Steve Nash as just the second Canadian to ever win the NBA MVP.
The great Steve Nash was an 8x All Star. And he also was the NBA Assists Leader 5X’s; during 2005-2007, 2010 and 2011. However, Steve Nash also won the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) award twice, in 2005 and 2006, while playing for the Phoenix Suns.
But now it is a new era. And time for Shai to shine. ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news about SGA and why he was voted to win the award. Charania reports,
“Breaking: Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won the NBA MVP award, sources tell ESPN.
First MVP: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the No. 1-seed Thunder to a league-high 68 wins and became the second player in NBA history to average at least 30 points on 50% shooting, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1 block per game along with Michael Jordan (1987-88, 1990-91).”

Whenever your name pops up with Jordan, you know your season went right. Nevertheless, while of course, SGA is thankful to his OKC Thunder teammates. He also took a moment to thank his wife for all of her support.
After accepting the NBA MVP award, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander stated, “Sorry I’m so dramatic. Hailey Summers thank you for everything that you are. You were the first person to show me what love really means… what sacrifice really meant… wouldn’t be the man I am, I wouldn’t be the player I am, I wouldn’t he the father I am without you. Thank you for that.”
Sweet. Well, now SGA turns his attention back to the business at hand. Winning a championship. OKC is currently in a battle with the Minnesota Timberwolves; the winner of the series will move on to the finals. Will this year’s MVP win a title? We will soon see.
