OKC Thunder Become 3rd Team Ever to Start a Season 23-1 or Better
Don’t you just love seeing history play out right before your eyes? Right now one team in the NBA is looking pretty unstoppable after snagging a championship. They are consistently winning game after game; experiencing victory after game. After conquering the Jazz, OKC Thunder have become the 3rd team ever to start a season 23-1 or better while also tying the franchise’s longest winning streak.
While OKC were down some players, they still had no problem rolling on past Utah. Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams each scored 25 points and the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder improved to 23-1.
OKC (23-1) holds the best record in the league and is riding a 15-game win streak. There’s been a lot of comparisons between the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder. For instance, the 2015-16 Warriors and this years Thunder through 24 games have close records. The big difference is that the Warriors didn’t lose a single game, going 24-0.
OKC experienced a loss near the beginning of the season to the Portland Trail Blazers. The matchup was intense and close but Portland pulled it out. Winning and so far holding this season’s bragging rights, 119-121.
However, going 23-1 is still wild. Something you don’t always see in basketball. So then, give the Thunder their flowers. And even though they won’t surpass Golden State’s superb hot start to a season; they still have a chance to finish with the best record in history. Plus, be just the third organization to do something elite and cool. OKC is now one of three teams in NBA history to start a season 23-1 or better; which those teams being:
2025-26 OKC (23-1)
2015-16 GSW (24-0)
1969-70 NYK (23-1)

However, looking forward to the future could the Thunder be one of the BEST? All the Thunder has to do is get to 70 wins. When you crack open the history books you notice that the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors, who finished with an unprecedented 73 wins and 9 losses, broke the previous record of 72 wins held by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls. Both teams, GSW and the Bulls, are the only ones in NBA history to reach 70 wins in a season. OKC no doubt are hoping to be the third team to join this unbelievable list.
Best part for fans in Oklahoma City is that they will get to enjoy the spoils of a well put together team for some time. In 2025, OKC and Thunder approved agreements to keep the Thunder in OKC. Back in June (2025), the Oklahoma City Council approved four agreements that will retain the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA basketball team in OKC through at least 2053.
