OKC Makes NBA History With 87 points in the Half—Most Scored by Any Team
They started the game being down one game in the series. However, the Thunder rallied back to even things out and tie things up. And they did it in historic fashion. OKC makes NBA history with 87 points in the first half, which is the most points scored in the playoffs by any team. EVER.
At halftime the National Basketball Association took to social media to confirm the record news. The NBA revealed, “OKC IS ON FIRE!!! 87 points in the half is the most scored by any team in one half in NBA playoff history.”
Now if you really like diving and combing into the history books, the team that Oklahoma is dethroning in this high scoring regard would be Cleveland. The Cavs made it hurt during one game in the playoffs eight years ago. What was the damage? How many points did the Cavs put up?
The previous high was the Cavaliers in 2017, with 86 points in Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Warriors. Heck, the Cavaliers also set an NBA Finals record with 49 points in the opening quarter! Cleveland hit 13 three-pointers in the first half and ultimately won Game 4 of the 2017 Finals with a score of 137-116.
Nevertheless, coming back to 2025, the Thunder have now beat out the Cavs’ impressive 2017 performance by 1 point. Getting to 87 points thanks to a foul right before the halftime buzzer. Those extra free throws sealed the deal on an already outstanding OKC half. Bringing the scoreboard to 56-87.
What is even more wild is that Jokic and Westbrook didn’t exactly play poorly. Yes, defensively they were nothing to write home about. However, at the half both Westbrook and Jokic had garnered 15 points. But, OKC players just went completely scorched earth making anything the Nuggets did look quite uneventful.

And the nightmare only continued in the second half for Denver. With the Thunder being over 40 points away from the Nuggets in terms of scoring. Denver did put up some fight, but the damage had been done. Thunder ultimately won the game with ease.
Nonetheless, with the series now tied 1-1, NBA fans get to see which one of these teams have the most bounce back vibes. OKC bounced back after their loss, can Denver do the same? Well, find out later this week. Game 4 is on Friday, May 9.
