Nuggets Nikola Jokić Joins Russell Westbrook as Only Players Averaging Triple-Double in Back-to-Back Seasons
The Denver Nuggets are on a roll and finishing the season super strong. With exactly the type of pace and energy any team would want flowing into the postseason. Nonetheless, one of the franchise’s star players once again is proving why he’s been a MVP and one of the best ballers in the league. With a win against the Utah Jazz, the Nuggets Nikola Jokić joined Russell Westbrook as the only players in NBA HISTORY to average a triple-double in back-to-back seasons.
Just saying that a player averaged a triple-double sounds wild. However, it had been done in the past and history is repeating itself. Speaking of the past, let’s quickly touch on Russell Westbrook.
If you go back a decade you will come across the beginning of Westbrook’s triple-double era. And he didn’t just accomplish this feat two times in a row. He actually did it THREE times.
Remember this all occurred while Russell was still playing for and a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder franchise. Nonetheless, from 2016-2019 you could call him “Mr. Triple-Double.” So this means for the 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons Westbrook was a triple-double machine. And now he has recorded over 200 of them over the course of his basketball career.
Nonetheless, the National Basketball Association took to social media to announce Jokić’s elite achievement. The league stated via X,
“JOKIĆ OFFICIALLY AVERAGES A TRIPLE-DOUBLE IN THE 2025-26 SEASON!
With 12 assists in tonight’s victory, Nikola Jokić has now officially averaged a triple-double on the season. He joins Russell Westbrook as the only players in NBA HISTORY to average a triple-double in back-to-back seasons!”

But wait there’s more. The Nuggets win streak is still in play. They now have won seven in a row and Nikola has the opportunity to make even more history as the season wraps up.
The NBA explains, “Jokić has clinched a triple-double average for the 2025-26 season. The three-time Kia NBA MVP is also on pace to become the first player to lead the league in both rebounds and assists per game in the same season since the NBA began using per-game averages to determine leaders in 1969-70. Jokić and the Denver Nuggets carry a seven-game winning streak into Saturday’s matchup against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs (3PM/ET on Prime).” Nice! That’s going to be a great game and we will keep an eye on this stat.
