Novak Djokovic Stunned Eliminated From US Open
It’s been a few upsets in the world of tennis. Some of the biggest names experienced disappointment. One of which is Novak Djokovic who was stunned and eliminated from the US Open. And another one was Carlos Alcaraz who exited the event in the second round. The 21 year-old from Spain was defeated by Dutchman Botic van De Zandschlup No. 74 in the world, 6-1, 7-5, 6-4.
And we don’t won’t to leave out Naomi Osaka. She was also eliminated with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) loss against Czech Republic’s Karolína Muchová in the second round.
The loss was so devastating that she said:
“It’s a little rough, because I do take these losses really personally. It’s like a dramatic word, but I feel like my heart dies every time I lose,” Osaka said following the loss, as reported by the Associated Press. “It sucks a lot, but I’ve been trying to be more mature and learn and talk more about them.”
That statement reminds us that you have to learn how to lose in order to win. But no doubt she’ll bounce back.
But getting back to Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion was taken down in the third round. Alexei Popyrin, the 28th seed, defeated Djokovic in the third round of the US Open, 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
Tennis.com reported that:
For the first time since 2002—twenty-two years ago—neither Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal nor Roger Federer will win a Grand Slam title.
That’s hard to believe and just doesn’t sound right, but here we are. And no matter how great someone is at a sport they can’t stay on top forever.

The 25-year-old, 6’5″ Popyrin used fast strokes and a fearless approach to best Djokovic. Popyrin is onto the fourth round of a Slam for the first time. He’ll play Frances Tiafoe on Sunday. But as for Djokovic, to say this loss is disappointing is obvious. As tennis.com went on to say:
Djokovic—who struck 14 double faults, his most ever in a Grand Slam match—he exits the US Open before the fourth round for the first time since 2006. He also leaves Queens with just one tournament win this year.
What will Djokovic do next, is this the end for him? Probably not, but we’ll see what happens.
